Vandals use paint to ruin new North Vancouver home - NEWS 1130

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A home in North Vancouver won’t be move-in ready as soon as the owners were hoping after police say vandals poured over 15 cans of paint throughout it. There is extensive damage after the paint was dumped over appliances, counters, hardwood floors, toilets, in the fridge, on the walls and on the carpeted stairs.

Yesterday, the contractor of the home on Mackay Avenue got to work and was surprised after realizing culprits had broken in overnight. The home was a week away from being moved into and the builder thinks the damage is well over $80,000.

“This appears to be a break and enter with intentional malicious willful damage displaying a total disregard for someone’s personal property,” says Corporal Richard De Jong. “Someone out there will have paint on themselves from throwing that much paint around and likely will be boasting about their criminal behaviour to someone.

anyone else think the vandals could have picked a better colour than a neutral grey?

GLOW 08-17-2016 01:47 PM

matrixfwd 08-17-2016 06:19 PM

maybe it's an act of revenge on owners or contractors.

Verdasco 08-17-2016 06:46 PM

Vandalism? More like making the fucking colour of the paint better....

bleeding eyeballs from that colour!

jasonturbo 08-17-2016 06:57 PM

I've seen this before, 'twas a dispute between the general contractor and the painting company.

tiger_handheld 08-17-2016 10:45 PM

whats wrong with the color? I was going to go with that color for my home :(

Mancini 08-17-2016 10:48 PM

I hope there's insurance.

StylinRed 08-17-2016 10:50 PM

Clear that the vandals are colour blind :)

roopi 08-18-2016 07:53 AM

This couldn't just be random.

asian_XL 08-18-2016 07:58 AM

$80,000 damage? sure?

winson604 08-18-2016 08:54 AM

^^
I know the article probably didn't cover all the damages and I ain't no fucking expert but shit that dollar amount sounds a bit too high yes?

jasonturbo 08-18-2016 09:24 AM

Maybe they don't realize latex paint can be removed with water...

OriginalJC 08-18-2016 09:38 AM

Were there 15 cans of paint sitting in the house? I can't imagine random vandals lugging in that much paint and dumping it. Paint isn't cheap?!

sam0m0 08-18-2016 10:15 AM

That's what I was thinking since the paint in the fridge seems to match the wall paint.

New home owners didnt like paint, making insurance pay for new paint job :P

RRxtar 08-18-2016 04:05 PM

first thing that popped into my head is that the contractor didn't have any more work lined up after this job lol

secondly would be insurance scam

Judging by the type of colors and amount of paint used, they were probably mistinted quarts. Probably $2.50-$3 per quart. (I used to work in a paint store, along with other RS members on here)

asian_XL 08-21-2016 04:18 AM

buy few more quarts in different colour and turn the wall into this

Market it as art.

Aww man that would be annoying to fix after just completing all that work.

k3mps 09-08-2016 08:31 PM

I've got friends in real estate and they've mentioned this stuff happening before on a smaller scale, such as graffiti.

Ranged from someone who lost a bid on the house to angry construction workers not paid properly to contractors getting screwed

Hondaracer 09-08-2016 08:45 PM

anti-gentification people around commercial drive have been fucking with houses for years now.

sad part is, some of the new construction they fuck with arent just developers tearing down and flipping properties, it's long time residents simply upgrading their homes.
