First thing I thought when I saw the FB post in my feed with this was that I've seen this guy on Skytrain before. Never heard him making racial slurs, but the way he was acting on the car that day, made me make sure I was aware where he was in relation to me.
I don't know even how to describe it, other than "shifty/abnormal." You know when you see someone and you know they're trouble or untrustworthy? It's that subtle gut feeling that something isn't right.
In hindsight, it's possible he was harassing the asian girls that he was next to. I was at the other end of the car, but I could see they were getting uncomfortable standing next to him.

The problem is that shaming them does not put them behind bars nor does it stop them from molesting/raping a kid in the future. It only interferes with police investigations.
There is also one incident where the creep hunter lured an innocent guy who had no intentions of molesting/raping anyone. The innocent guy said that the creep hunters messaged him only a few minutes before the meet up and said "I'm actually 13 years old". The innocent dude thought it was a joke and since he was already there decided to stick around. Creep hunters came up to him and publicly shamed him for it.

The only reason they're in any mess is because some idiot is more concerned with getting attention than doing anything properly. I'm not overly familiar with the Dateline show but I'm guessing their process was more elaborate than 1 idiot sitting in his basement.
Again using the guy from the article as an example, if the guy was a pedophile why would he have conversed with and agreed to meet an 18 year old in a public place? Remember he only got some contradicting messages about the "girls" age AFTER agreeing to meet. Whereas the Dateline show "girls" were saying they were minors early on, receiving sexually explicit messages, and then the creeps were agreeing to come to their "house" when they were supposedly alone.

Even then, it is on the prosecutors to prove his guilt beyond reasonable doubt while he is not required to say or do anything in his defence as he is presumed innocent. Send me a pic of yourself holding a sign, send me some verification of who you are etc.
so instead of being lured into an actual sting by authorities, they just see these news stories and are super careful with who they actually meet up with in the future.

we went from ID this guy for translinkpolice to basement pedo hunters 
- the to catch a predator show often if not always worked with local authorities. i've seen several episodes where the guy books it out of the house and there's like 5 cops waiting outside ready to take him down. i don't think it's comparable to "creep catchers"
- like i said, no one has to take any side...translink is looking for the guy and to ID him. once they've done that they'll do their investigation. it could go the other way if the situation isn't as it's made out to be as meme & stylin said...first step is finding this guy and getting his side to the story. no need to jump to conclusions, but just possible be aware (and safe) if you encounter the guy...or engage him in a thoughtful conversation and report back
