Guy's car damaged by tow truck

Surrey man?s beloved car badly damaged during tow-truck ride | Vancouver Sun

I'm not 100% sure what this article is trying to say.

Was the guy denied ICBC coverage because he didn't have the proper coverage on his policy? In other words, his policy wasn't adequate enough.

Or, was he denied coverage because ICBC says no matter what it's always the tow truck's "garage policy" that is supposed to cover it because the tow truck driver admitted negligence. And if there was no negligence, then the guy would have had to claim against his collision or comprehensive policy (anyone know which one?)

oh hang on, I just watched the video that accompanies the article.

basically it sounds like the towing company didn't have a garage policy at all. and I assume since it was damage due to negligence, his own policy doesn't apply at all. so his only recourse is to sue for compensation.

so I guess the lesson is: if you're going to hire a towing company, make sure they have the proper insurance policy because if they damage your car, your own ICBC policy doesn't apply.

That's what the guy says in the video. I can only imagine he is referring to the tow truck driver not being covered by ICBC.

I feel for the guy, but sorry buddy, I don't know what kind of fly by night towing company you called in order to save a couple bucks, but it isn't ICBC's fault he didn't carry the correct coverage. Sue him, there is no way you will lose, and buddy will learn a valuable lesson on how to conduct a business legally while carrying the right insurance.

If ICBC just covers everyone even when they have fucked up and don't carry the correct coverage, then they are gonna bleed even more money than they do currently.

So he didn't a have coverage and neither did the tow truck, why the fuck would icbc cover it? What a stupid fuckin article.

And it's not like tow trucks encounter knock off wheels all the time, maybe he could have mentioned something when it was getting hooked up

The car owner, tow truck operator and tow company owner are idiots. This whole story is just full of ass hats.

Lol even if he was covered by ICBC, he wouldn't be very happy because they'd write that car off in a second and he'd lose his beloved car for good.

Then there is a deductible that would have to be paid which he couldn't afford. Which most likely be higher then the car value.
