Buying Tires in the US
 

I'm looking to buy a full set of new tires for my car, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on places to buy in the Bellingham area? I know the usual Les Schwab, and Discount Tire, but looking to see if there were any other places? TIA

I would sooner buy my TYRES in Europe.

Seriously though, discount tire is your best bet.

From time to time, the discount tire eBay store has good promos. I saved a good amount on NT01s via their eBay store.

Good options, but also make sure to check local places. Right now with the CAD being so shitty, it often works out cheaper buying tired locally (once you include conversion, duty, your time) and then you'd also be supporting your local economy. And with places like Costco that include warranty, you can honor it still instead of having to deal with over the border stuff.

Helping le gf buy tires and Costco currently, with their $70 off rebate, is less than buying the same off Tirerack/Discount Tire. Who knew...

unless you have USD money in the bank saved from 2010 its not worth it after everything.

I know I saved a good $300 canadian going down to the states. This was last year (after the dollar dropped).

The thing that made the difference to me was timing not money. The Discount tire near Bellisfair had the tires I needed in 3 days (I phoned on tuesday and drove down saturday to get them installed). I called Kal tire and Volco and both said it could take 2-4 weeks to get the tires I wanted.

So if you are shopping for a specific set of tires in a specific size, locally you might have to wait, but in the states they seem to hold a lot more stock, so you can often get tires way quicker.

Like any smart shopper, you need to do your research and compare prices. If Tirerack has a close out sale, then no one on the CDN side is going to be able to touch it.

If the US price and the CDN price for the same tire is comparable then it is usually not worth it once shipping/duties/taxes and having to go pick them up are factored in.

A co-worker just bought a set of Pirelli winters in 205/50/17's from Tirerack. They were on close out so each tire was like $45, while on the CDN side it was like $160 each.
