Adblock Plus now steals ad space from content creators

Adblock Plus have announced that they will start serving ads over top of the ads that are being blocked by it. In other words, they are stealing ad space from the sites you visit.

My recommendation has always been to whitelist the sites you normally visit if their ads aren't intrusive. A couple banners here and there don't present much of a problem. Here at RS we don't run popups or video ads. Just images and text that don't cover the main content.

In any case, if you run Adblock Plus you should immediately uninstall it and use something else instead. I'm sure someone can offer some suggestions of some non-sketchy non-thieving ad block plugins.

No matter what you do, please consider whitelisting RS which helps support the site. In fact, I have found banners that run here to be quite useful! For instance I totally forgot about the Warcraft movie opening date, but a banner notified me of it the day before. Another time, I saw a banner for an Under Armor seasonal sale which I never would have known about otherwise. I was able to pick up some gear at a good discount, thanks to that ad! FeelsGoodMan

Is that correct?

I thought that Adblock would whitelist certain ads themselves that they deemed non-obtrusive, and allow those to run.

I didn't think they were in the business of selling ad space...

EDIT: Just read up on it, I guess they changed what they are doing. Either way it sounds legit to me. It's not like they are siphoning off all the websites ad revenue, they still give ad revenue to the organization... (assuming their percentages aren't out of wack) this seems like the better alternative that we have had the last 10 years, where they just kill all of a websites ads and kill all that revenue.

Either way I have whitelisted RS, as well as many other websites I like. I just use adblocker cause youtube is a major joke with their ads.

Opera has a built-in ad blocker (RS white listed, naturally). I hate 3rd party software

Opera might but doesn't work on my phone. I still see tons of ads even if i don't want to
