Single crack across tire tread (laterally)

So I just hit 5k with these tires and when I was doing my rotation, I noticed there was a crack across both front tires (FWD drivetrain).
They aren't deep at all, and I'm not sure if they will just wear away over time.

What to make of this?
Is this safe to keep using?
What could be the cause?

These are new tires I just got earlier in May.

Warranty will be a bitch cause I bought them online from Discount Tire and I didn't bother paying for "Certificate for Refund or Replacement" either.

I think manufacturer's warranty will come in to play. The "warranty" Discount Tire sells is an additional in-house warranty, or insurance if you will. You should give the manufacturer a call.

Which tires are these?

They look like BFG G-Force Sport comp-2.
Give DT a call and see but bcrdukes is right and there should be some manufacturer warranty on them.

Not sure what caused the crack, but it is a potential issue. They may write it off as not being an issue but the crack may lead to the tread coming off of the carcass, you may not want to risk it.

You sure it's a crack and not from driving over some sort of debris?

For the time being, the crack looks quite shallow, and I can't see how it can be an immediate issue / safety harzard for regular street use. But since the tires are relatively new, it doesn't hurt you at all to take some clearer, sharper pics and send them back to DT / DTD and see what they say.

For what it is worth, I have had to replace some brand new tires I bought from Tire Rack, and their return policy was extremely straight forward. An email with some attached pics, they send off a shipping label, and off I bring the tires back to Point Roberts to have them returned.

I'm not saying TR is better than DT / DTD. Just sharing a tire warranty return experience, that's all.

I had the same thing happen to BFG Rival tires after a track day. I think its a known problem. They call it a tread splice and claim its only cosmetic.

Yes, the're the BFGoodrich g-Force Sport Comp2. I only use my car for the street and have never taken it to a track or any sort of performance event. I sent an email with pics and DT thinks I ran over something for that to happen.

I'm not really sure what to do. A buddy of mine who has the same car and same wheel set up also had a tread splice, but only on one front tire.

Anyway, these tires have been rotated to the back now. But it sounds like DT doesn't feel it's their responsibility in any way.

I would contact the manufacturer. Take pictures of the sidewall as it will contain manufacture dates/batch numbers as well.
