With the top of the line F150 and GMCs selling for $70k+, this is a no brainer for Merc/BMW/Audi to enter the truck game. Margins are massive (relatively low tech) and it is a new lucrative segment for the germans. Remember when people thought Porsche was crazy developing a SUV?

With how crazy the Hummer looking G wagon sells, I think new non truck customers will be buying these German trucks...

That's because of the duties imposed on foreign trucks, if Merc decides to step into the fray of the US market they're going to have to invest a lot and have these things built in the US to avoid the duties lots of risk and money involved for that

As if those who would buy luxury pickups would go for something that's not American anyway.

If you travel Europe and Asia, you can see how there's almost no market for full size pickup trucks.
