Good muffler shop for custom fabrication in Vancouver? (Did a search but a lot of the responses are super old or inconclusive) Looking for a muffler shop in Vancouver/Burnaby/Richmond that can do custom fabrication. The job itself is quite simple (welding on a 2" pipe) but I am looking for someone who can do quality work. Any suggestions or recommendations? Below is a photo of what I'm looking to get done: http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h8/olih/5f10ce7d.jpg |
That's funny, cause I just did a search using the keywords "custom exhaust" and got plenty of similar questions with several definitive suggestions from late 2015. Unless your definition of "super old" is from a year ago? We get at least 3 threads started every year asking the exact same question you have, it's not possible you can't find anything :lawl:  In any case, MDA/TSS/G5 (Burnaby/Burnaby/Richmond) are the three speed shops in town which do really quality work. All my welding is done by MDA and Mac is great to deal with and always does quality work. |
MDA and G5 stand for? I know TSS is The Speed Syndicate. Thanks. |

g5 has done custom exhaust fabrication for me. the guy is great at welding there. |
Somebody is probably going to recommend Muffler Man on Kingsway, I recommend to not go there. I have been twice and I have been unhappy after each visit. I think he can do decent work but each time I have gone I have been disappointed. I got them to patch a section of exhaust on my Cressida (cut out a section and weld in a new section), they did the job but then welded it crooked so I was scraping over every little dip in the road. The car was written off before I made it back to complain, but this is the simplest of jobs and they fucked it up. I paid $350 for them to make a cat back exhaust on my Integra. It rattled right away, I took it back the next weekend and they took it for a drive and said it was fine. I then went out with them and showed the rattle and they said it was not from anything they did. The exhaust then rusted out in 6 months and needed to be replaced. Yes, you get what you pay for, but 6 months? |

While on topic of welding if someone can give me a quote for a Y-Pipe welded single end to a 2.5 pipe that'd be cool. |

I suggest you by pass a muffler shop and go to a metal fabrication shop, especially if your material is stainless steel (as in the picture). A few tasks you should do first, figure out what kind of material you want to weld. Just normal iron, stainless, titanium etc. What kind of finish you want or can live with? eg if you have a stainless exhaust does the blue / yellow coloring like most ricer exhausts do bugs you (if it does, you want to make sure the shop has a chamber and plenty of gas). Look up the type of equipment AND gas you need. Then ask the shop you are interested in whether they are even equipped to do that. Most muffler shops I see usually just have a stick weld.. works fine with cast metal.. not so much with more exotic one or even thick ones.. so best to figure out what you are trying to do and go from there. |

BUMP. My SUV is needing a new exhaust soon before it turns into swiss cheese and unfortunately there is no aftermarket support. I'm looking to go up in size and go with stainless steel tubing. I contacted TSS and they advised they couldn't help due to equipment limitations (no mandrel). With that being said, anyone know of an exhaust shop with a mandrel? For the work I have in mind (bending 2 tubes and possible custom fab of a <1ft elbow) it seems I'm looking at shops such as MDA. Anyone have experience with Custom MetalCraft in Poco? |
Since you mentioned MDA... https://www.revscene.net/forums/7171...DA+fabrication Proceed at your discretion. I am not in any way affiliated to OP and MDA. If you are in Coquitlam as your profile says, hit up Ryan @ https://www.cmcautoservice.com/ Ryan's been known for his fabrication skills and used to host dyno days for RS. Super awesome guy to work with and one of the nicest people in the industry. Hope he can help you out or at least he can point you in the right direction. |

I read on one of the other exhaust threads that jpark (?) had a good experience at CMC. Do you know if they have a mandrel? |
Unfortunately I'm not sure if CMC has a mandrel but I would expect a guy like Ryan to have one. Add insult to injury, haven't spoken to him in a while since relocating to Toronto. I can only suggest giving him a call to ask. |
What do you mean have a mandrel? You mean mandrel bender? The only place I know with one I would not recommend. Plus it’s way cheaper to buy pre bent mandrel bends and fit to your application. |
Pretty sure he was referring to a mandrel bender. Curious which place you know but would not recommend lol |
I have a feeling I’m going to seriously regret posting this. Lol If anyone wants some small custom fab done, I could be persuaded for the right job. Not looking to do full exhaust as my garage is too small, and it’s annoying as all hell without a lift. Disclaimer - I’m not fast. Nor do I work for free.
