Thinking of buying jeep with no papers, need advice Recently I was talking to one of the local tow truck drivers and he mentioned he had a jeep in his lot that he wanted to sell. He said it's been sitting there for 4-5 years and he doesn't know who the previous owner was. according to him it was parked at a abandoned house that was being repossessed. According to the tow truck driver he did a icbc owner check and its never been registered in BC. I would like to register the jeep obviously. I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to get it registered. what hoops I'm going to have to jump through with icbc, and besides a stolen vehicle search and a lien search what I should do to cover myself. I Didn't think about calling icbc until after they closed today |
Tell the tow truck driver to go to ICBC and ask to do this. Repossess or seize a vehicle Once he has ownership of the car, then he can sell it to you. That is the best way and protects you from getting scammed. |
The tow truck company has to do all the research and eventually do a transfer of ownership with ICBC. Being an out of province vehicle that has never been registered makes it a little more of a headache as well. Let him do all the paperwork first to save yourself the headache. |
Depending on who you talk to you can also contact a Jeep dealer with the vin and can find out which particular dealer sold it if was BC or else where.. but do not buy until you have a confirmation is going to save you from a headache later |
