Sell an Old Car or Scrap It? Hey RS, could use some opinions. My parents have an old 2000 Elantra that they don't need anymore. It only has 170,000 km on it, but a 17 year old Hyundai doesn't really have much value. Requires new tires, leaks a little oil, driver power window doesn't work, fan knob is broken... lots of little things need fixing, BUT it still starts everyday and runs like a champ. I was wondering if it is worth the hassle to try to sell it on Craigslist for $750 to $1000 bucks, or should it be just sent to a wrecker, and how much do you usually get if you do scrap it? |
$300-400 for scraping |
sell it, why scrap a perfectly good car |
Sell it. Could be a good first car for someone. |
Make a post, admit all wrongs and post for 800obo/flrxable.it will be gone within a week unless it's seriously fcked up. I picked up a 500$ Celica many years ago and it was one of the best cars I ever owned. When I was done with it I sold it for 3k :D |
Not sure if you looked into the scrap-it program but it might be a good choice: https://scrapit.ca/incentivechoices/ |
The craigslist ad wouldn't have been as much effort as this posting.... And then you would have received interested parties vs people telling you what to do.. Post it up and see what you can get. If you don't want bullshit low ballers, make it clear and concise, even when people call you. |
have you tried selling it on CL? it's perfect winter beater material... |
Thanks for the opinions guys. Will definitely get it on CL before winter hits. Just wanted to see if it would be worth the effort which it seems it is. |
