Anyone upgrade their Over the Range Hood Microwave?

So I moved into my apartment a year ago and the suction from the Rangehood/microwave combo unit simply sucks. Just want to know if anyone has upgraded to a better unit, or simply taking it out?

Currently installed is the Whirlpool YWMH31017AS - 2

Reviews says it's one of the best but it doesn't do justice.

OTR microwaves suck as range hoods, I know I have one too. That's definately the trade-off for the space they save. Let me guess you are sick and tired of steaming up the front door?

The best I've seen so far is the LG's with the "extendavent".

When my old OTR microwave died, I was going to get one of these LG's but no one stocked them locally and I couldn't wait (the old one died just before thanksgiving weekend). Ended up going with a Samsung unit, works fine as a microwave but yeah the hood part still sucks.

How is it set up and how long is the exhaust run from the fan to outside? Your current unit is rated for 220CFM so look for something significantly higher than that if you want an improvement.

Yea I've looked previously not many are more then 220cfm for the size. I'm thinking about ditching the microwave part to get a better range hood.

That LG looks interesting.

Just check the actual ducting compared to what the install manual calls for. If the ducting is too small/long/bendy you're not going to get very good flow either way.

My Samsung is 400cfm and vents directly out through the exterior wall (like 6" of ductwork)

It still sucks. Or should I say doesn't "suck".

The primary problem with all of these really is the fact that they don't cover the whole cooking surface.
