Reducing exhaust drone?

So I recently installed a aftermarket exhaust system, the invidia q300 to be specific.

I love the sound but the drone could get annoying during longer trips. Are there any suggestions to reduce the drone?

Silencer if they offer one. There isn't so much you could do honestly.

Install resonator?

Install a resonator, something like a glass pack will reduce your problem, perhaps even eliminate it.

A resonator would require cutting and modifying the exhaust, correct?

I have read that the exhaust has to be broken in, and it should mellow out. Not sure how reliable is that information.

Yes, a resonator will require modifying the exhaust.

I suppose it could be broken in if there is some sort of fiber filler in the muffler itself. It depends how your exhaust is made.

Resonator, or get a knowledgeable exhaust shop to fab a helmholtz resonator/anti-drone tube. It will require very precise measurements and mathematical calculations to get rid of drone in a specific rpm range based on the length and diameter of your piping.

Does invida not offer a rezonated midpipe for the q300?

Or driver simply gets used to it after a few weeks. :lol

It's a weird phenomena... First day I get an exhaust, I almost feel embarrassed driving it around.
few weeks later, I'm wondering now what if I got a louder one... hmmmm.....

hud 91gt 11-27-2016 08:56 PM

Not used to it... Deaf to that frequency. lol

catless pipe?...sometimes that cat adds drone :troll:

extracrunchie 11-28-2016 07:02 AM

I don't think my comp tech header and high flow cat is helping.

Unfortunately invidia doesn't make a silencer for the q300 but they do for the N1.

I don't really mind the drone but my wife finds it atrocious. Lol

If you don't mind me asking OP, which vehicle do you have?

Adding a resonator is usually the first line of defense...Vibrant makes good resonators.

Also, usually exhausts get louder after the break in period IIRC.

It's just a 07 Acura TSX. Nothing special [emoji1]

oem exhaust is best exhaust

91cord 11-28-2016 02:16 PM

had mda fab install/weld a resonator on my invidia exhaust and no more drone.

minimebang 11-28-2016 04:13 PM

If you think the Q300 has too much drone then i suggest you just keep the stock exhaust on. 95% of the aftermarket exhausts are louder than Q300.
