Advice on Road Rage

Hi Revs,

I am posting today because I need some advice on a road rage incident that happened December 2, 2016.

I have broken down the events so it's easier to understand.

(1) I was driving on Highway-1 to drop off my cousin at Lougheed Town Center.

(2) I took the Brunette Ave exit and I slowed down to the speed limit that was governing the Brunette Ave exit (I forgot the actual speed limit).

(3) As I exit the highway through Brunette Ave, I slow down to yield for any cars that might be coming from New Westminster.

(4) The coast is clear so I signal a left turn and make a two-lane lane change into a left-turn lane.

- As I lane change into the left-turn lane I notice a car that is a bit too close for my comfort

(5) After I am on my desired left-turn lane I get honked at.

- This honk makes no sense because it was unsafe to turn left at that time due to incoming traffic.

(6) After it's safe only then do I turn left, drive up the hill, and get on another left-turn lane to get onto Lougheed Highway.

- Honker is still behind me.

(6) I turn left and get onto Lougheed Highway, reach a red light, and Honker stops right next to me.

- Stares at me, looks away, stares at me looks away and I noticed.

(7) I smile and wave back at him, and as he rolls down his window the light turns green and middle fingers me as I drive on.

- I pulled my window down while I was ahead of him and just did a middle finger wave.

(8) We're still on Lougheed Highway and he is intentionally driving behind me so I slow down and he pasts me.

(9) He goes onto the right-turn to turn right onto North Road which coincidentally was my next turn as well.

(10) He STOPS on the right-turn lane gets out of his car and approaches me and the following exchange occurs:

Honker: "Is there something you want to say >:O?!"
Me: "Why'd you honk at me, it was unsafe to turn left man."
Honker: "Because I almost rear-ended you, you fucking retard!"
Me: "I'm the retard? How do you almost rear-end me I was going exit speeds and you saw my sign-"
Honker: "Because you made a fucking hard stop you retard!"
Me: "Were you on your cellphone budd-"
- Honker Doesn't Let Me Talk -
Me: "Hey, I want to have a professional civilized talk how about you let me tal-"
- Honker Doesn't Let me Talk -
Me: "Okay, I'll let you talk first *Smiles*"
Honker: "Fuck you/this (forgot which one he said)" *Slams my side view mirror so hard it turns LOL and walks away to go back to his car*
Me: "You're on Camera! LOL"
Honker: "Waves at me"

FINISHED

Who is in trouble here and who is prone to legal charges?

(i) He obstructed the flow of traffic on Lougheed Highway/ North Road to get out of his to verbally abuse me.
(ii) The fact that he almost "rear-ended" me proves that he was exiting over exit speeds and was driving too close to me. Possibly not paying attention to the road as well.
(iii) He middle fingers me first.

But I did smile and wave at him which I have no idea if that is a bad thing to do in Law Books of Canada.

Any advice or insight?

You do not have to participate. Next time don't finger him back. He may well have been tailgating you and it might well have been his fault he had to brake hard. If you had ignored what happened after that there would have been no confrontation. Don't lower yourself to their level. That's my advice.

How about you just post the video then so we can really be honest? Video shows no bias

So many cringeworthy things said.. OP you come across as a smug little turd. Want to fail so bad.

Legal charges? :lol

Bring it to the courts. Maybe the judge will do everyone else a favour and take both your licenses away.

OP comes here hoping RS will take his side, makes himself seem like an arrogant crybaby

If it happened to me, I would've shoved a baton up his ass.

Spoiler!

Had a guy get upset at me over the weekend. I just flipped him the bird and that made him more upset to the point where he was half way out his window yelling at me while driving.
Guy's truck inches over into my lane and I troll him by yelling back at him to learn to drive and stay in his own lane. :troll:
He nearly blew a head gasket. Then had a make a U turn as he missed his turn.

Hard to say just by one perspective of the story. If it is the intersection that I'm thinking of by your description, the distance between exit ramp off Hwy 1 and intersection to turn left is VERY short indeed. And if the guy was driving just a tad above normal speed limit, which most of us do, he can appear very quickly.

This story could have easily been the other way with you being the one going straight and had to brake for guy making 2 lane change.

So to sum up, another human yelled at you and you are thinking of pursuing legal action? Maybe Canada isn't for you; America is probably more your speed.

I wasn't planning to file anything or even contact the police, I only reached out to the RS to see if I broke any Laws.

Thank you for your input, and to help visualize the place I believe there was a Best Western Chelsea Inn very close.

i know it's hard to hold back when you did nothing wrong to warrant that type of behaviour, but don't add oil to fire if you do not want to deal with roadrage

SilentControl 12-05-2016 06:15 PM

Thank you for your advice,

Although it's very hard to hold back at some times because it seems like a battle of pride - I probably shouldn't have fingered him back.

Then again I took it pretty professionally when he came out, I just smiled at him.

Thank you for your input.

This is my first time ever getting into a confrontation resulting from angry drivers.

Do you know if I'm prone to any legal fines?

Seems like I'm just getting trolled by certain hyprocrits who probably got fucked the same way...

You didn't do anything professional, stop pretending like you took the high road.

One of the best ways to make an angry person more angry is to smile and nod.
Either you're a moron for not knowing that, or a prick for doing it anyway.
