lol probably not.

What I mean is, instead of paying 1000 dollar range for a atom tablet, a Snapdragon SoC should provide the same performance for the same thing at a 400 dollar range.

RISC will always have a deficient vs x86 when it comes to Windows.. I mean there WAS an DEC Alpha version of Windows NT (as close to ARM as Microsoft got).

Basic browsering maybe okay but when we now offload most things with WebGL, there will be a deficit. especially ARM is always down on FP performance.

With Microsoft adopt and dump schemes (Windows Phone, UWP etc) .. we will see how long this will last.

Qualcomm is always more expensive than other ARM licensees (eg MediaTek)

I believe MS realized other than Office and Photoshop and Gaming, they have no real advantage, most users have found android or OSX are better platform to settle and develop.

I didn't even know that they were trying to get OSX onto their ARM based processors. Maybe they're not too far off.

While these SoCs don't have instruction sets of desktop processors, the video in the link shows decent performance. I suppose we will have to see. The article does point out the failed windows RT as well. I'm totally ignorant on what the difference between RISC and CISC is.

Yeah, that's what I was hoping for, that I could get MS Excel, and Word, on a tablet. The android versions aren't all that great. After that I'd use google maps on android only.

Anything that needs to run through Java will not be as good as native apps.. that's Android's biggest problem and was a historical design constraint. Back in the day, they didn't have the time. There are rumours Google is trying to fix it, but it takes time. Not to mention it is against Google's interest to create something that is not "always on", so it will never be quite like Windows, OSX etc.
