The development token system is out. Engine development is essentially unrestricted this season (Hopefully Honda can catch up now)

Last Minute trip, im headed to Aus for the F1 weekend
bought a champions ticket pass where you get to sit at a different grandstand each day (fangio, brabham, jones) so fangio is on the start straight, brab n jones are at turns 1/2

pretty excited, was hoping for better seats, but so last minute i guess thats not bad that i even scored that

Mental note to self, airplane wifi is still pretty shitty. SwiftRage

Lots of pics please! I can't wait for the first race to start!!!

Although, not to much to cheer about for Mclaren fans though. McLaren unsure if it can finish first race - GPUpdate.net :QQ:

So Honda's already developing a brand new Power Unit because the one the one they have now can't rev without massive vibration causing itself to blow apart...

https://www.motorsportweek.com/news/id/14115

Who'd have thought that Honda, a brand known for building small rev-happy motors can't build an F1 motor that can rev...

That's because a Honda VTEC engine for the street shares absolutely nothing in common with a modern F1 engine. They had to start from scratch.

They have a block, crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, camshafts, cylinder heads... You'd think after 70+ years of building engines, they could figure how to build one that's balanced, even starting from "scratch". The fundamental physics are the same. They were able to build 20000rpm v10's back in the 2000's

godwin 03-24-2017 04:03 PM

Didn't Honda made packaging error to start? Remember the electric portion of the drivetrain is the main weight penalty, something Honda hasn't have much experience with... Having existing data helps immensely which Honda probably didn't have access to either. Honda should had done the same trick as Renault/ Infiniti / RedBull.. but of course they are way too proud to do that.

However what is done is done.. they are stuck for a long freaking while.

Reading all the reports, the ICE is their main problem. The article I posted says they're going back to the drawing board with the engine (they have the opportunity to because there's no development restrictions this year), but it's going to take a few months for the new design to get here.
At least they're saying that they will spend the money to redesign rather than admitting defeat and leaving.

Apparently Mclaren is in bad shape though, rumours are that they're really close to going under if they don't start improving soon. Hopefully Honda doesn't fuck this up.

snowball 03-25-2017 01:37 AM

^
Honda won't let McLaren go under, they give them free engines and pay for most of Alonso. They're in so far deep that failure is not an option.

I hope they get it right this time!

slicrick 03-25-2017 03:59 PM

The McHonda engine situation isn't the exact same as this video, but it's reason to be at least a little optimistic, removal of the engine token system is their saving grace they would be screwed if it was still in place. It can't get much worse than it is right now? Either way I hope they can get it figured out, I had high hopes for them this year.

StylinRed 03-26-2017 01:15 AM

Go Vettel! The Italians were going nuts and congratulating one another lol, and booing Hamilton lol

HonestTea 03-26-2017 12:51 PM

Oh YES!!! The Ferrari hype is real!

Vettel vs Hamilton will be a good scrap for WDC. But did anyone notice how boring the race was?

k3lv 03-26-2017 01:02 PM

There were multiple drivers saying "overtaking is impossible with the new cars".

Hamilton reportedly didn't even try to push after he got stuck behind Verstappen. Will wait for the next few races to judge... I think Australia is a hard place for overtaking anyway.

dark0821 03-26-2017 06:50 PM

it hurts being an Alonso Fan.... fuck...

Great68 03-27-2017 10:33 AM

It's exciting in that it looks like Ferrari have brought some game to the table this year. I'd love to see a Vettel/Hamilton rivalry akin to Haakinen/Schumacher.

Unfortunately, yesterday's race overall was a snoozer.

StylinRed 04-04-2017 06:00 AM

still on vacation, didnt realize i couldve gone to the shanghai gp though, thought that was still a week away -_-

Wherlein is missing this one too, i think Giovinazzi is just going to take over his seat lol
