Stolen Iphone - what can RCMP do in regards to findmyiphone location

Friend got their iphone stolen, lost mode activated on find my iphone etc. It has gone active at an address a few times but the RCMP say it needs to stay active for them to go there. Are there any other options? Serious replies please!

Don't know what you expect. Police can't do anything if they don't know where the phone is.

Phone is gonna be sold for spare parts.

Tell your friend to take better care of their next phone.

If they bought it within 90 days, see if they bought it on a credit card with purchase insurance.

That phone is gone. I've already told the RCMP stop wasting my money on this, and go back to abusing their power in more wasteful ways.

if you know the address go there /get the RS beatdown crew and get the phone back if cops won't do shit

Berzerker 04-08-2017 03:07 PM

Did I hear RS Beatdown crew??

Berz out.

Mr.HappySilp 04-08-2017 04:29 PM

They can't do much. Even if you know the location of the phone. They can't get it back for it.

I mean what are police going to do? Get a warrant and search the address there? It takes a lot to get a warrant. Also are the police going to do if they can get a warrant. The person who have the phone can easily say they bought it off CL or some crap.

Just black list the phone so whoever took it can't use it.

Just go to the address and ask politely if you can have your phone back for $XX. If its a child talk to the parents and see if they could search their room lol. Just tell them the last current location was at this location and if you find it ill gladly pay a reward.

donk. 04-08-2017 06:41 PM

This happened to me once. I followed the GPS location of the phone and made the phone continually beep, eventually heard it in the truck of a car on the street. Called the RCMP, told them the situation. When they showed up I showed him the find my iPhone app and he could hear it beeping in the trunk. Told him I knew he could run the plate and find the address and he did that, knocked on kids door and go my phone back.

The way a lawyer friend explained to me is "No photo of the perpetrator.. No police action."

Next time subscribe to Hidden Hidden - Find & recover lost or stolen Macs, MacBooks, iPhones and iPads.

Oh don't trigger Lost mode unless you want your phone to be "lost" forever.

mr_chin 04-08-2017 08:22 PM

Blacklist it for now. The police can't do anything. You have to take matters into your own hands.

Whats wrong with lost mode? It has a message with a option to call a specific phone number to reach the owner.

Cops went the address, was denied entry and said no phone so SOL for my friend i guess.

Too bad it never comes true.

You need Hidden for that.

Basically you tip off the thief the only way to make money off the phone is to sell it for parts. The highest probability to recover (if you don't have Hidden) is to keep the phone active and it is in a public area.

From the cops perspective, they don't know for certain if the phone is at the address eg in the apartment. They have more leverage if they have a picture.

Revscene? Vigilante group?

tiger_handheld 04-09-2017 10:16 AM

is hidden for iphone and android?

Mikoyan 04-09-2017 10:39 AM

Oh, and if you want to keep tracking a phone over cellular data with Find my iPhone or Android, don't call your carrier to flag the phone yet. Even if you get them to unflag it, you won't get service back until the phone gets power-cycled again.

I've used Prey for Androids before. Testing seemed ok. Never lost a phone to really test it out.

FerrariEnzo 04-10-2017 05:52 AM

As long as the person is smart.. you cant really track it..

Always having turned off...

This thread raises my blood pressure.

Reminds me of the time I went down to San Fran with a buddy after he had a hard break up. He had purchased a brand new at the time iPhone 5. Went to the washroom at the mall, and he said he rested his phone down on the sink and went to grab paper towel. Turns around, phone gone. He sees a guy walking away into the bathroom stall. He approached him and the guys says "I didn't take your phone."

That was it. Leaves, heads to where I was at the food court and tells me the story. We go back in and the guy is still in the stall. Long story short, I tell him to go find a security guy and i'll keep an eye out on the stall.

A few minutes later the security guy comes, knocks on the stall door and tells the guy to come out. Meanwhile it's been 20 minutes, but now he flushes and walks out. Stereotypical theif. Baggy pants and hoodie, the whole 9 yards. He tosses his bag on the ground and says "search me"

The security guard starts going through his bag and I slip into the stall. I searched around a bit in the seat cover thing, then stuck my hand up above the second roll of toilet paper. Bam. Nice fresh iPhone 5.

I've never been so fucking angry in my life. Walked out of the stall, grabbed the guy by his shirt, shoved him against the tile wall and started yelling obscenities but my friend pulled me away. They couldn't fucking do a thing to this guy. I felt like Berz but 4 feet taller (I'm usually pretty chill and passive). Holy shit i'm still riled up. Anyhow, that was it. Kind of glad I didn't lay into the guy as it's the USA with a nice security guy witness right behind me. But jesus was I angry. FUUUCK.

Anyhow, good luck with the phone lol
