Anyone work for Telus?
 

Currently in the interview process and feel fairly confident in getting hired as a "Digital Home Technician" basically a hardware installer with emphasis on customer service.

would be a full-time, casual, position until deemed acceptable into the permanent roll..

Telus seems to offer quite good incentives in terms of a unionized workforce, raises, stock option matching, etc.

however, not sure how i feel about working evenings/weekends and varrying shifts.

I have a similar company which does alarms, fire safety, and security, offering me less in terms of per hour, but there is more potetential to make more $$$ quicker than at Telus, also more varried work and opportunites for them to pay for schooling, as well as a company vehicle you take home, computer, phone etc.

weighing the options but not being able to continue part-time education at Telus when they begin working to 9pm seems like a fairly hefty downside.

union is almost nonexistence at Telus, they are on their way out of the door, hence the crazy shifts with not much of added compesation.
Maybe someone can chime in how much they lost in negotiation last year,

i got an offer from a company who does contract work for telus, does anyone have any experience working there? some people say you are not able to work directly for telus after working with a contractor like mine.

also which alarm company are you mentioning?

off-topic but which companies , if any, offer technician work that do not require driving aka a driver's license?

They do have a thing against contractors who've done work for them directly, as my fiance's cousin had done work previous for a different contractor and has had a hell of a time even getting an interview with Telus.

I doubt any installer position would be even considered without a class 5 or better licence as almost every position i came across either required to you be on different sites constantly, or use a company vehicle for the purposes of work. Also have to have a reasonably clean drivers abstract which is one of the first pieces of documentation they require after applying.

AFL and Ledcor does contracting work for telus. They are slowly trying to take jobs back from contractors as theyve realized contractors arent up to their standards and are leaving customers with a bad impression. Reason being is contractors are paid by the job vs telus employees being paid by the hour. As a contractor, ur income is based on how many jobs u can do per day, and as a result, contractors try and fit in as many jobs per day as possible compromising the quality of work they do.

I think you have to take a 2-3 year grace period before being able to work for Telus after. I used to work for LTS and my friends used to work for ATI (now known as AFL), all these contractor jobs require a drivers license class5 as you need to drive a truck around.

Contractors are actually forced to do more jobs in a short amount of time that's why quality drops at times. Telus techs can refuse work and claim they dont have time because they are hourly. So that work gets dropped to the contractor who is overbooked. It's a cascading effect. That doesn't really benefit anyone except the Telus Tech who gets paid regardless.

I'm interested in this thread. Although I do not have an answer for OP it seems as of late everyone and their mother is working or aspires to work at Telus.

Be it a technician job, field worker, in-house, ect.

I was curious what the hype was about.. / not trying to jack thread hope OP gets his answer. I'm not looking for a job or anything.
