So you're telling me your kia rio gets a standard backup camera for less than $20k, but my $50k BMW doesn't???

Revscene, of course! | I wished there was a way to see all my old posts in some archive. I've been actively on RS for over a decade and thus over a decade older. Curious to see what kind of stupid shit I wrote and I wonder if I've matured over the years... maybe not. |

Is it just me or do high school kids these days dont care about cars or modding? Back when I was in high school we all got our L as soon as we turned 16 and it was all about fart can exhausts, cut springs and 10" Alpine Subs. Nowadays I barely hear a rice rocket hitting VTEC. I read an article that the trend is kids dont even get driver licenses until they're past high school and if they get a car dont really modify it.

i remember when taking the public bus to school was only 75 cents. we used to jip the guy by giving him 3 nickles instead since they looked about the same. Those bus drivers never cared and just gave us one of those colorful paper tickets.... ahh the good ole days. Whats the price of a bus ticket now? 2.25 or something? thats not too bad of an increase actually... all things considered.

Haha, I thought this thread was more about what has gotten better locally here vs. improvement in the quality of life as a result of general technological advancement globally. Below are my 2 cents.
The lack of growth in median income has really made this city difficult to enjoy while accumulating an adequate amount of savings. While there are still some cities that top Vancouver’s housing prices, I think we possibly have the worst income to housing price ratio.
I always hated it when politicians boast about our economic growth and low unemployment rate. Yes, our unemployment rate has declined meaningfully, but we aren’t adding professional jobs with a level of compensation that is in line with the cost of living in this city. Recently there was a study done by a UBC prof I believe, and he concluded that the median income over the last decade, adjusted for inflation, actually has decreased. Meanwhile, housing prices skyrocketed, and other essential expenses also increased, including gasoline, food, insurance, property taxes (obviously with increasing housing prices), public transit, among others.
All this means is that it’s very difficult for one to be independent and grow savings, especially if you are a recent grad. Some people choose to live with parents to save on rent. Some people make sacrifices to their hobbies. Some people just completely give up on saving. I think there are tons of people who are looking to leave, I think the barriers are usually lack of specific experiences and skills for any companies to consider relocating them. Not many people want to take the risk by giving up their current job (even if they don’t like it) and move to another bigger city with better career prospects without securing a job first.

Not many people want to take the risk by giving up their current job (even if they don’t like it) and move to another bigger city with better career prospects without securing a job first. | I blame this on human. There are far too many humans around. Why pay you $80k a year when there are 100+ ppl willing to do the same job you do for $40k or less. Back in the 70's and 80s there are way less human around so even with a average job you can earn decent income. Also human life span back in the 70s and 80s is like what 50 to 60 years old. Now you can live pass 90 easily. Why quit your job at 50 when you know you can live longer and need more retire funds.
Add that to the fact a lot of jobs are gone/disappear due to advancement of AI/technologies/better management there are less decent jobs out there. IE website designer/webmaster/ Back in the 1900s early 2000s if anyone/company/business needs to build website/server for their company they require someone or even a company to help design/maintain/update/manage their website/servers/ Now with all these easy tools people have access to, anyone can make a decent website in a day or less and is so easy to maintain a website/server/ Unless you are running a giant computer like Wal-mart, Best buy. Thanks to the technology we have a lot of jobs in the IT field is gone now. That's just one of the few areas. Look at McDonald's in the past few years they have been installing these touch screen LCD's where you can order your food and pay with debit/creidt card. Now there are usually only 2 cashier instead of having 5 to 7. Save cost in the long run. Look as self check out stations at supermarket. Instead of hiring more clerks they only need 1 to 3 at the check out station that can serve up to 6 to 8 people at once. Same with accounting. There are software out there that business can use. Most small companies are fine with these software since their business is simple enough.

0-60 times
Modern cars that we can all afford can do 0-60 in under 7 seconds no problem, many into the 6 or even 5 second range.
Go back to 2002, and you were lucky if your car would do it in under 8 seconds

3) Indoor smoking ban has made non-smokers like me forget about a time when smelling like an ashtray after a night out was a regular occurrence.
4) TV shows - Golden Age of Television we're living in - GoT, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Sopranos, etc.
