TWC rated this the best budget laptop SSD and discrete graphics under 600 USD is next to impossible with other new laptops Acer Aspire E 15.6" Laptop - Black (Intel i5-7200U/256 SSD/8GB RAM/NVIDIA 940MX/Windows 10) : Laptops - Best Buy Canada |
^^^ 5+ lbs, though. If weight is really important, OP will want something under 3 lbs. That Zenbook is decent. For a bit more, you can get a base XPS 13. |
true, i've never owned anything over 3 lbs or 13" spec for dollar the Acer is great though +1 on the XPS 13...I'm sure there are promo codes kicking around to bring it down closer to your budget actually I have got a 10% off select Dell PC, OP you can PM me (i was just going to toss it away lol) |
XPS13 is a great laptop. I have the 15" version with the 4k monitor and it is the best laptop i've ever owned (my previous one was an alienware). From the build quality to the weight it is a great overall package. The biggest downside for me is the placement of the camera (it's on the bottom instead of the top). If you get one, I highly recommend getting a dbrand skin for it as it really improves the overall look of it. |
Thanks for the replies. I may look at the XPS, it was the one i really wanted but this purchase was wifeys but who are we kidding we all know I'm just going to take it over eventually. I'll try to convince her that the XPS is worth it especially since the $1299 model is $100 off now + 10% coupon from twitchy + ebates + dell advantage. Too bad the 10% ebates just ended, oh wells. |
Going to throw a curve ball here and get a macbook air you can easily get one new for 999 or a used one for WAY cheaper. Any recommendation I would say find a computer with full SSD since you are a light user that is the main speed difference you will see. |
+1 for XPS 13. Solid build. Feels much sturdier than zenbook IMO, for much of the same (if not better) features. Consider it a 5 year, or longer investment |
Thank you everyone for their input. I ended up getting one of the entry level XPS 13's. Wasn't hard to convince the wife after all the savings. Was super tempted to go up another step and get the one with 8gb of RAM vs 4gb but then we were starting to get into ridiculous pricing simply for a laptop we will be using casually. Ah wells at least our still has SSD. $1299 - $100 instant discount - $120 with 10% coupon (thanks twitchyzero!) + 5% in dell advance rewards approx $59 + 15% ebates approx $179 After all said in done would cost me $1000 all in. Again, thanks everyone! |
15% CB? hax! |

Last time I did an ebates cashback with Dell I was able to keep it even though I returned the laptop. Not suggesting anything, but maybe you can order more than one by "accident" and bring it down to maybe $850-$900. :fuckyea: |
