Good car camping place near vancouver? Looking for a nice little off the beaten path car camping location near vancouver. Any ideas gents? i got a 4motion wagon so she should be able to take some dirt trails just nothing too too crazy. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...692a1d975f.jpg http://www.dave-derbis.de/images/pho...g_scotland.jpg |
When you say off the beaten path, do you mean not a provincial camp site? Cuz I can name 30 of those within 3 hours drive easy (edit, prov. Camp site that is) |
yeah im looking for something a bit more exotic in location. Ive been to a few of those provincial campsites and they are quite ho hum in terms of scenery. Basically looking for some gravelly roads that ends in a lake or a mountain plateau with a beautiful vista. |
It's been a long time for me but you should find something out around Harrison Lake. |
Are you looking for drive in? Or hike in. If you're limited to off the beaten path drive in, you almost always need some 4x4 |
drive in would be ideal so we can just camp out of the car. dont know how capable the 4motion is on this wagon but i think the bigger issue will probably be the limited ride clearance if it's a really hardcore 4x4 trail. ill look around harrison. thanks for the tip |
Jones Lake. It's about 20mins past Chilliwack on hwy1. 9km up gravel logging road with some rough spots but cars have been doing it. It's a hydro run campground, free. |

Since I've built my pathfinder, I have yet to do a trip like this. Looking at my friends pictures of them doing it in Alberta has made me jelly. |
Have these kind of spots been eliminated since 2009? |
Haha oh ya.. fully serviced logging road. |
Holy shit... I don't think my 4motion can handle that kind of terrain |
Would a 2017 Honda Pilot be able to go up there? I kinda want to go there to hang out, but scared I'll get stuck. |
That video is super old.. it's not a fully serviced logging road.. with potholes. I was up there on May long.. there was probably 50+ cars up there to put it into perspective |
Stave lake |
For Jones lake there's an actual campsite on the north end of the lake and then just a free for all if you continue up the fsr down south. Once you pass the campsite the road takes a nosedive but still passable in a cuv. |
How busy do you guys think Canada Day weekend will be? Looking to go up Sunday-Monday. I've got a 4x4, slightly lifted on all terrains but what kind of vehicles have may it to the camp site? crossovers on regular street tires? |
ArcGIS Web Application I found this map. Its quite useful to see where the forest service roads are and where they lead. After an trying to book Porteau Cove for the weekend and laughing at the retarded $98 dollars fee for essentially a gravel patch next to some water, im never going to look for a provincial park camping site again. Oh and next availability is in OCTOBER... seriously... WHAT THE FUCK. Campers rate B.C.?s best and worst provincial campgrounds (with video) |
Try hicks lake. Only 2hrs away from Richmond from front door to parked in the lot. I try and go every summer once. It's family friendly, warm lake and good for kayaks and canoes. I assume weekend is insane but for the last few years i only camp during week days Edit: I was there last week Monday-Thursday. Quiet for sure as kids weren't quite out of school yet. Rained a little and my dad broke my brand new Coleman canopy :( but hey the parents are getting older and the torch has been passed for my brother and I to now take THEM camping and provide and do everything |
