Heads up: Fire on Mitchell Island. Knight Street Bridge Closed

Just in time for the Friday afternoon commute! :P

Fire on Mitchell Island closes Knight Street bridge in Metro Vancouver

A building is burning on Mitchell Island between Vancouver and Richmond, B.C., closing the Knight Street Bridge in both directions.

Images on social media show flames and dark smoke billowing from the area.

Richmond Fire Chief John McGowan said crews were called to scene just before 2 p.m. PT.

He said the fire is burning from a mattress recycling depot, but the materials aren't toxic.

McGowan said neighbouring businesses will likely be evacuated and that it's not clear what sparked the flames.

Richmond RCMP have warned commuters to expect delays

It's all clear ... just drove by Marine Dr and Knight St. No congestion at all, in fact, lighter than usual.

I went through there at 3pm and it was like every friday. Congested but still moving. While listening to the radio at the same time saying it was a gridlock.
