Installing 200W total LED bulb
 

Hi guys, i have questions for the electricity in the car. I know the OE bulb only 55W halogen for the high beam. And I'm planning to install a pair of 100W LED each bulb. Some says it won't be hot as halogen so melting issue won't be there. But the wattage issue is my concern.

Will i be saved by using relay with 30A fuse and 40A wiring rating? Is it true that 100W led bulb is not as hot as the 55w halogen? Will this conversion messed up my car?

Wattage (joules/second) is a measure of energy, not heat. Generally speaking, LEDs are more efficient, so they turn more of the 100 watts into light, and not heat, so they run 'cooler'.

Watt = amp x volt. Since 100 = 8.333 x 12, you'll be drawing 8.3 amps ,less counting internal resistance of the wires.

You probably want a 10A or 15A fuse, and appropriate wire gauge.

Normally the relay is rated 30A so it's safe to use that, right?

Have you had experience with such a high wattage led bulbs?

For the relay, yes - its fine. For the fuse, you want lower because there's way too much headroom.

No, no experience with them. I personally don't like aftermarket LED headlight bulbs.
