Looking for a new TV
 

Looking for a new TV. Wondering what's a good deal out there. TV doesn't have to be too big around 46inch to 50inch is for a 500sq ft apartment. Doesn't have to be 4K or OLED. Just a typical HD TV is fine.

I was looking on getting either Sony or Samsung TV since I have good experience with them in the past. However from some online reviews VIZIO seems to be a pretty good brand.

Looking for some advice from RS.

i think that's refurbished...new through B&H is only like 150$ more

keep in mind Vizio has been under fire for selling your viewing history if that matters to you

I would get the Vizio P50 from Openbox. Excellent panel all around with full array dimming.

Just note that Vizio TVs do not have a built-in tuner. It's all controlled via a tablet.

is is this same? Thinking of getting the TV from Costco coz of their warrantly.

That's the main thing stops me from upgrading my TV, hate all the spyware on all of them... I mean I'm not even a tinfoil hat guy, but it's pretty intrusive.

Don't connect them to your network, and use them as a regular 'dumb' TV.

Went to Best Buy and man even the 50inch TVs seems tiny.

televisions will feel like they shrink over time
my 64" feels just right...even if everyone that sees it for the first time thinks it's overkill for a 1 bdrm

TV is something that I'd highly recommend to buy the best you can get whenever buying one. Because it's something that lasts a long time (think 10yr+) and by the time you are looking to replace them, they are worthless even though it works fine.

So, check your budget, go to Best Buy/Costco and see what's the top end of that budget and go from there.

IMHO though, get an OLED one. Most of the problem inherited with the technology (burn-in, pixel degradation) has improved greatly in the latest models and shouldn't be an issue unless you run it 24/7. And OLED is pretty much untouchable as far as image quality goes.

In-law recently got a new place and bought the Sony OLED... that thing is GODLY gorgeous.

I agree with OLED or QLED. The image quality of the newer technologies are unmatched right now. Don't get suckered in getting a 4k TV without these technologies. You'll regret it...

FALD supporting HDR is a decent alternative

OLED at MSRP is crazy. But there are quite a few sales where you can bring it down to the 3K territory

And considering they last 10yr+, $3000 doesn't sound over the top for a person who watches TV often.

Better yet, go CL and search for OLED, even the newest Sony AE1 are selling for sub 4k... and we are talking about among the very best TVs out there.

Actually oled prices right now are a lot better then last year
Was looking for the past 6 months before 2017 models were released the best pricing was on blackfriday and boxing day for the 65b6p which was 3999.99
Now the b7p is regularly selling at that price or close to it

Happy with my b6p..would have been a little happier with the b7p for the same price

I'm still using a LG 47" 1080p bought back in 2008. I'm just waiting for 4k OLED to come down in price before replacing the 1080p.
I really like LG's 4k OLED, but they don't have bigger than 65"... :(

$3-4K over the average 8 year lifespan might not seem too bad...but most people don't look that far ahead yet they're replacing $1K iPhones every 2 years (albeit on contract)

once you cross the $1-2K mark for televisions, most either don't care about the increase in quality or is patient enough to wait for better prices

I know I dont use my TV often nearly enough for it to be worth it...so hoping I can ride out my 1080p PDP until 8K :lol

Imo the more "affordable" OLED sets aren't worth it quite yet.

I'd wait till the higher end models reach the 2800/3200 price point. Sonys new set looks amazing but no way in hell im dropping 6k

Check if you have any buddy who works for Sony Canada.

From what I heard, the employee discount on OLEDs are sick.

I definitely don't lol would think people working for Sony anymore is probably few and far between locally.

I have my 4K 55XBR850B which is still a beautiful TV but once the OLEDs become more reasonable I may be forced to upgrade sooner than expected lol

it was on sale and is decent for the price I guess. Parent's had a Sony LCD for over 12+ years and is still going so I figure Sony TV is pretty decent. Now I only need a sound bar.
