Limitless' 03 CBR600RR Casual Build Originally bought a R3 and learned on it mid May. Loved how easy it was to ride and throw around everywhere, but after a few rides on my friend's CBR600RR I was dying to upgrade. The ergonomics were the main reason why. Even though I lowered the clip ons on my R3, I would have to spend a lot more money to get the aggressive ergonomics I wanted (raised seat, rearsets, potentially aftermarket clip ons, etc). Figured it wasn't really worth the money, especially when the CBR600RR is cheaper than the R3. Fast forward just a month of having the R3, purchased a 2003 CBR600RR :) The bike came with an Akrapovic slip on, Corbin seat, solo cowl, sliders, and some tank grips and protector. Mod List: Yoshimura RS5 carbon slip on exhaust Galfer gold SS brake lines FP Racing black levers w/ gold adjusters Corbin seat Solo cowl Puig double bubble light smoked windscreen Frame sliders Pro Grip tank protector Tank grips DIY fender delete TST front flush mount turn signals TST rear turn signals Gloss black LED turn signal mirrors R&G license plate LED Integrated tail light Gold decals Black fairing hardware Gold reflective wheel stripe I plan to keep this bike fairly stock, only changing some of the cosmetics and probably levers and grips in the future. Still very new to riding so I'm planning to learn a loooot more before I mess with anything suspension/power related, if I ever even get to those things (hence the "casual build") https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...fa&oe=5A0DAC55 https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...35&oe=59C719DF Beside my R3, much beefier (excuse the insanely messy garage) https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...e4&oe=5A08E627 https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...3b&oe=59CA25F2 First thing I did was take off those reflector license plate bolts, wasn't really a huge fan of them https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...d6&oe=5A0FF802 https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...9b&oe=59C905D1 Had this idea for a black and gold theme, so got some stickers cut and replaced the OEM stickers. I ended up just removing the CBR sticker on the fairing and left it empty, since it seems to look clean without it. https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...39&oe=5A02EEB7 https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...27&oe=5A04E64B https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...19&oe=5A0399F9 https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...11&oe=59CA5CB2 A quick before and after https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...65&oe=5A07275C https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...e8&oe=5A101CE5 The rear fender really kills the lines of the bike imo, and especially since my R3 came with a tidy tail, I started looking for some fender deletes for the CBR. The tail exhaust makes it kind of weird, so there were no real cheap options. Everything decent was $100+ and looked basically like a chopped off OEM piece. So I decided to chop off my OEM one myself and save the money. https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...2d&oe=59D636DC https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...04&oe=59C425B1 End result: https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...64&oe=59CAF087 Before and after, also took off those reflectors as well https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...c2&oe=59FE3222 https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...be&oe=5A1029C4 Just picked up my flush mount signals for the front and TST rear turn signals earlier tonight, so I will be putting those in soon :D Also have to pick up my turn signal mirrors to kind of make up for the smaller flush mounts, which will probably be put on next weekend. |
Pick up a flasher relay. They are about $30 at Carter motorsports and are a direct plug and play for almost all bikes. You just unplug the stock relay and plug in the new one. It will prevent hyperflash and make the lights flash at the stock rate. The flush mounts are LED so they will require a different resistance. Also you should scrap those rear pegs seeing as you have the solo seat as well the little feeler bars on your main pegs. They are the long looking metal bars on the bottom of the main pegs. Pop those off for a cleaner look. Bike looks great man! |
TST surprisingly included the relays for me haha, not sure if it was for the front or rear signals, but I read somewhere that the whole bike only requires one of them on each side? Oh do those metal bars on the bottom of the main pegs come off? I always thought it was 1 piece so I would have to grind it off aha. I've been heavily debating on taking off my passenger pegs, but it looks like I have to remove the rear cowl to get to it so it's a bit time consuming. Might have to leave it on for the gf whenever she wants to ride along in the back (I also have the stock passenger seat). Would have looked a lot cleaner without them for sure though. |
The rear pegs are normally fairly easy to remove. Pop the seat cover off and bolts are normally pretty easy to access. Yes, those bars come off the main peg. Just use a 10 or 12 mm wrench to crank them off. 1 relay should do the entire bike. I believe the TST is a plug and play. |
Oh that's good to know, thanks! Wired up my TST rear turn signals today, glad I got them. Really didn't want eBay ones since they're hella dim, but also don't really want to fork out ~$90 for Rizoma ones. These were about $30, and they're much brighter in person than they are in pictures :D Flush mounts are going to wait until I can pick up my mirrors so I can wire in everything at once. https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...72&oe=59C7CE25 https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...3b&oe=5A002C40 Soldered them and tried to hide them neatly in the OEM position, the wiring is okay for now I guess. Going to cover them up with some plastic tubing I have at work later on https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...17&oe=5A0CFAB3 |
I can't tell but did you remove your front fork reflectors? That is another really easy thing to pop off to clean a bike up. |
Not yet, been wanting to though but how illegal is it? Don't want to attract too much attention hahah Installed my flush mounts the other day, I'm glad they're not recessed like the 07-08 ones. They actually stick out pretty far that I don't think I needed to buy the turn signal mirrors, but doesn't hurt to be more visible when signaling I guess Flush mount vs OEM https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...bc&oe=5A0CBEE5 Gloss black turn signal mirrors vs OEM. Aftermarket ones sit a bit lower than the OEM, but visibility isn't bad at all. The mirror itself is very good quality surprisingly. https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...14&oe=5A0A4C7F https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...0d&oe=59FEDE78 The indicators on the mirrors are kind of cool too, won't have to look down on my cluster as much to see if I'm actually signalling, or if I forgot to turn them off https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...f0&oe=5A0F0C37 I did have to mount the aftermarket mirrors onto the OEM mirror mount, and had to mount them upside down so the signals aren't as noticeable as they could be. But still, better than nothing. If anything I like how they're gloss black haha. Drilled a hole in the OEM mirror mount and the front cowl right underneath the mirror mount so it's covered. https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...e7&oe=59FA3443 Some more shots with the flushmounts and mirrors :) https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...66&oe=59C56B83 https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...dd&oe=59FAE15C |
Finally got my wheel replaced today at Modern with a new tire :D Did my first wash, the paint is pretty rough on this thing. May have to tackle it with a polish later on https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...5f&oe=5A0F4886 https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...f5&oe=59FD45B3 Started to clean the chain, and damn I never understand why all 3 of the bikes I've bought so far have such dirty chains. This was a half way shot, after cleaning it for about 15 minutes https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...95&oe=59C673A3 Also went for a ride tonight with some new friends to break in my tire :) https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...0b&oe=59C97A6C |
Looks great! |
Great job! Also, your place seems to be swimming in 370Zs! |
Thanks! Yeah ahaha my gf really liked my Z so she picked one up too, and then my mom saw both our Z's in the back and was thinking about getting one herself after hearing about how cheap the base model is. She ended up getting a GLC instead though because she thinks she looks too clai to be in a "sports car" lol More of my friends are starting to get bikes this year, it's been a great switch from cars to bikes :D https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...cc&oe=5A0E5CBA And after many many many hours of teaching, I finally got my cousin out on a CBR125 that he and my gf split to learn on. Hoping that one of them will take my R3 once they know how to ride better. https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...9c&oe=5A10B165 Put it off for way too long, but finally did my first oil change. Previous owner gave me an OEM Honda filter which was great, found an ugly Fram filter on the bike from before. Can't seem to find a place that will sell Motul for less than ~$85 for a jug, and my distributors at work don't carry motorcycle oil :( Ended up going with Shell Rotella T6 after hearing some good stuff about it. Oil looked pretty clean through the sight glass, but was hella black when coming out. Changing the oil was so ridiculously easy compared to cars, I think I'm going to be doing them way more often than I need to. https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...be&oe=59C4CEA8 And then the mod that I was very hesitant on, a reflective wheel stripe. I actually ordered a pale gold stripe online that was more pale of a color than my "RR" decals. But when it arrived, it was definite more yellow than I thought. I know that pictures will always seem different in color, but that's a huuuuge jump. Got refunded for this product and the seller let me keep it, so I just slapped it on to see how I like it. At first I really hated it, but it's starting to slowly grow on me. Definitely not clean, but if I can't rice my bike a little I won't have any thing else to rice out lol. May take it off or replace it with something darker in the future, who knows. Also took prudz's suggestion and took off the front reflector and bracket, using the reflective stripe as an excuse for myself that these will reflect light more than those OEM reflectors will lol https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...9f&oe=59F7BBE4 Planning to do a coolant flush and front & rear brake fluid flush soon. Doesn't look like it's dirty (but can't tell for coolant anyways), but just for peace of mind. Really tempted to get SS brake lines so I can put them on and do the flush at the same time, but not sure how my budget will work with that. Also want to get some grips and levers, but that will be for later on |
Gooooood gooooooooood (Fingers tapping together) get more friends into the bike scene. That's how it happens lol. A friend got me into biking and I dragged several in myself. Looking clean man! I'm digging the wheel tape. With bikes you can never be to flashy. A bike is flashy by nature. I think it breaks up all the black nicely. |
Haha yeah, so far have about 4-5 friends starting to ride this season, hoping for more next season. Thanks for the kind words :) Just ordered my Galfer SS front and rear brake lines, and found out the rear brake resivior is inside the tail which kind of sucks. Looks like I'll be taking off all the fairings on the bike when it comes in to bleed the brakes, might as well get a dashcam and also hook up my battery quick connect charging terminal as well while I have it off. In the mean time, did a tiny little mod to show off the Akrapovic a bit better :) Removed the little silver trim. Before and after: https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...b7&oe=59F73523 https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...cb&oe=5A02D635 Never noticed the Akrapovic slip on comes with a carbon clamp, found that to be pretty interesting. https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...4b&oe=5A03D9A6 Does anyone know how I can go about replacing the end cap?? I really dislike the dolphin tip and want this one: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/8LaHcdvRVao/maxresdefault.jpg I found only one guy who has replaced his end cap on a cbr600rr, but I'm not sure if the sizing of different year slip ons are the same. I know that it's a simple drill and rivet the replacement caps, but don't want to spend money on getting one that doesn't fit :( |
pretty sure that's a 2013+ CBR600RR. Doesn't fit your bike. Also your gen has axial brake master. Look into upgrading to a radial one. get Motul 300V from GPbikes.com happy riding |
Brake lines finally shipped out 3 weeks after I ordered it, can't wait to get them in. Installed FP Racing medium length levers. Had to slightly trim the brake light switch otherwise it wouldn't trigger the brake light unless I haard brake... Pretty disappointing, but happy that it works now. https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...a9&oe=59F0D4D9 https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...cc&oe=59EFE933 https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...6c&oe=5A35353B Went up to Seymour with a buddy's R6, and met another guy with the same year and colour R6 haha https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...0c&oe=5A1A3CF5 And then finally decided to spray the silver lower fairings gloss black to match the rest of the bike (somewhat). Used some high temp because it gets pretty hot down there, hopefully it'll hold up. The most annoying part was taking off the OEM Honda decals. https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...82&oe=5A22AC38 https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...65&oe=5A298CFA Have another pair of stickers in a pale gold that will go on the lower fairings once they cure :) https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...93&oe=5A3917E9 https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...07&oe=5A37ED99 |
Went to Sunshine Coast for a few days, the roads there were amazinggg. Put 500km on the bike in 4 days and learned a lot about body positioning in corners. Good thing a bunch of my friends started riding early this year haha https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...8b&oe=5A59BAB1 Shittiest part was the ferry on the way back. We were told to go to the back of the ferry with almost no spots for our bikes, this one guy that we didn't know parked his bike against the railing in a way that none of us could fit our other 3 bikes there. Ferry crew told us to just park it and chok it, so we did. 10 minutes later we get called back down to find that our bikes (in gear and choked) had moved several feet. My friend's bike actually moved a good 3 car lengths and scraped another car. Amazingly, none of our bikes fell, ferry crew blamed us even though they told us to park our bikes like that. Pretty choked, my freshly painted piece got wrecked by that wooden block. https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...e3&oe=5A2DA9E8 Scratch on the ground from my kickstand, thankfully another passenger of the ferry was nearby and jumped on my bike to save it from going anywhere further. My friends' kickstand mark was a good 10x longer than this lol. At least I can repaint this myself I guess. https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...6b&oe=5A12D1C2 Replaced the tank grips and protector that the bike came with Before https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...7b&oe=5A2CD788 After https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...b6&oe=5A5C8E6B The typical ebay protector because I really disliked the black and red one it originally came with https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...01&oe=5A5FD980 https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...f7&oe=5A14847F Aand will be installing my Galfer brake lines and flushing the brake fluid with Motul 5.1 tomorrow! The "gold" matches my "gold" wheel stripe, which really is just a slightly darker yellow lol https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...17&oe=5A1BF8F6 |
Front brake lines in and bled with Motul 5.1, was actually really simple once I figured out how to fill the reservoir without taking off any of the fairings. Braking feels amazing now, it was way over due for a flush. Will be installing rear lines tomorrow. https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...db&oe=5A58BC34 Although not a huge fan of the piggybacking design of the Galfer lines where as OEM ones were 1 fitting to the MC and splits off into 2 later on https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...b0&oe=5A27C75A |
As much as I like Akrapovic over Yoshimura, couldn't stand the dolphin tip. Picked up a carbon slip on Yoshi to replace it, and from the install of the two I still realize that Akrapovic fits much better haha. https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...c3&oe=5A1ABFF3 One thing I really liked from Yoshi was that they gave me some heat shielding https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...9d&oe=5A596329 https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...b2&oe=5A21D404 Also installed some integrated tail lights while I had the tail section out. LEDs overall are much brighter than OEM from all directions. I kept the turn signals on the bike just in case, because from what I hear integrated tail lights don't make popo too happy here https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...a1&oe=5A5E100D https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...76&oe=5A12944D Still haven't gotten around to painting that scratch on the lower fairing from the ferry yet sigh. Bled the rear brakes and installed the rear SS brake lines too. https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...fb&oe=5A16D25A https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...3b&oe=5A56265A While the tail section was out I also took out the brackets for the reflectors and the luggage hangers to clean up the lines a bit. 3 months ago vs now: https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...4b&oe=5A2B26F9 https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...4a&oe=5A1B73D7 https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...5b&oe=5A1633DF https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...3c&oe=5A531556 |
Bike looks great as usual. remove the rear pegs for a cleaner look since you already have removed the rear seat! |
Thanks! I really want to but gf likes to sit on the back sometimes haha. I put the solo seat on when I ride myself and swap it with the oem seat when I 2up |
