I get it.. but in the vision, smoking was just one of those things that we supposedly left behind, along with capitalism, nationalism, war... Not against drugs whatsoever, but some are more dumb than others. Alcohol isn't exactly good for you, but it's not as dumb as smoking cigarettes

Trek now trying to appeal to Gen-Z teens with vaping characters :lol

Dixon Hill......... he wasn't disgusted with it. More like not prepared for it. Dr. Crusher trying to understand make up, lol.

Discovery is good. I hope the writers don't go stupid with this one. So much potential.

MG1 11-14-2020 08:30 AM

As for alcohol, I love the episode from the original series that had Montgomery Scott bringing out an old bottle of scotch and passing out - right after the alien got wasted. Kissed the bottle and "plop" goes his head on to the table. Meh, aliens cannot hold their liquor.

Mr.Money 11-15-2020 02:50 AM

shit i didn't know season 3 started,i watched like half of season 1 and enjoyed the hell out of it.

felt more like a hollywood movie than some b-grade half assed series as i remember it in the 90's.

bobbinka 11-17-2020 07:50 PM

wait, why was the crew of discovery marveling at the sight of a future Voyager? Voyager wasnt even built until well after their original time. technically, that name/ship should mean nothing to them.

I love the easter egg, but am I missing something here?

I think it's because it was designated a "J" so the 10th or 11th version of that ship. They know it must have a lot of history

That's my theory anyway

MG1 11-18-2020 03:16 AM

HMAS Voyager was a destroyer in the Australian Navy. Also an American coast guard vessel, and two NASA probes/satellites. The Enterprise has been everything from a French, 6th rate vessel, sloop, frigate, schooner, and the HMS Enterprise (England) to American aircraft carriers (CV-6, CVAN-65, CVN-65) and NASA's Space Shuttle.

Nice to see Yamato on that list. Did not know it was the sister ship to the Enterprise-D.

So hold up, this show is good now? You guys recommend watching it? I thought people were shitting all over this show when it first came out?

First season was trash (but beautiful trash), second was much better, and third is some of the best TV I've seen in years (imo)

CivicBlues 11-18-2020 03:23 PM

3rd season stride? TNG, DS9, ENT all had really shitty first 2 seasons and started getting better in their respective 3rd seasons. DS9 got REALLY good after season 4 and ENT wasn't given much of a chance after it got cancelled after the 4th. VOY was all over the place IMO. FFS TNG even had a freaking clip show in it's 2nd season. Remember clip shows? Thank god 10-episode seasons killed that off.

The first season and a bit, took some time to get used to. You had the pissy-ass crybaby, Burnham, the over the top, obnoxious redhead, first ever openly gay space couple, a tall lanky alien that swayed his arms around as he strutted about, a Star Trek Mulan..........

the only normal thing was Captain Pike.

Butt, the series had promise. With each episode, the story came together. The characters developed. The Klingons made sense. And, then, there was Spock.

I'm still trying to figure out Ash Tyler and the Klingon, Voq. Was he like raped by Voq? I wasn't deep into Discovery back then. Anyone explain what went on? Ash Tyler was also Burham's lover, yes?

Good to see Harcourt Fenton Harry Mudd. Nice! Can't wait to see the Gorn and the Tholians in Discovery.

mikemhg 11-18-2020 04:06 PM

Can I jump in @ Season 2 or 3 then? Or would I need to start from 1?

Prior Star Treks didn't really follow an overall storyline from episode to episode, so it was somewhat irrelevant where you started.

MG1 11-18-2020 04:20 PM

You can jump in at any time, but season 3 from the beginning, for sure. They traveled in time, because they had to. And, it is explained somewhat as to why in season 3. As far as I can figure it, nothing important in the previous two seasons. I guess things like, where Saru came from and Burnham's history, but everything else should be okay. If it becomes confusing, you can just go back one season.

I'm holding off on watching The Mandalorian season 2 until I watch season 1. As far as I know, Season 1 isn't out on DVD/Blu-Ray yet.

bobbinka 11-18-2020 04:26 PM

I dont have any issues with any of the seasons, I enjoyed the stories for what they were. What I dont like is Burnham's acting, and (what feels like) a certain relationship constantly thrown in our face.

I say you watch from the beginning.

.

Burnham has had at least 2 relationships, neither of which are "thrown in your face"... In fact I don't even know if her current one will go anywhere romantically :suspicious:

CivicBlues 11-19-2020 06:28 AM

Pretty sure he's talking about the one with the doctor and the engineer.

I just realized there's not a single straight white cis male on the senior crew of Discovery now that Pike left in S2.

MG1 11-19-2020 07:07 AM

As long as they don't bring that asswipe, Q into this series, I'm fine.

CivicBlues 11-19-2020 09:12 AM

Q is in the animated Lower Decks show, which is surprisingly pretty good.

Gay people: exist

Homophobes: YOUR STICKING IT IN MY FACE BrokeBack

Thankfully in the Star Trek utopia, people like that no longer exist SeemsGood

MG1 11-19-2020 10:56 AM

Lower Decks is definitely not my cup of tea. I had it scheduled on Blue Curve, but erased it after watching as much as I could take.

I can see how it might be enjoyed by many. Just not me.

Q, eh? How’d that turn out?
