When I was 13, and my buddy and I had nothing better to do in the summer we used to bike from No3 & Steveston to Stanley Park and back. It was pretty fun at the time.

fliptuner 07-27-2017 07:13 AM

I grew up in Vancouver and my family moved to Coquitlam when I was 13. I used to ride my bike to my old neighborhood to hang out with my friends and go to work.

I think it took around 45 minutes back then.

MG1 07-27-2017 08:51 AM

Damn you, Flip, I see old footage like that and I begin to tear up.

i used to live in new west and biked to vancouver somewhat often, even on a road bike it takes about 1:30 to get there going the fastest route. when you're 11 and you don't know the bike lanes that well and you're on some shitty bike i imagine it takes a hell of a lot longer.

Love the Beetle Counter. I wouldn't be surprised if mine was in there somewhere as my grandparents, living in Tsawwassen around this time, were using it while my mom was traveling the world.

Boys will be boys

I got into way worse trouble than this at that age, the only difference was social media wasn't there to ridicule me for it!

Same here. It was usually with a few buddies biking around in the neighbourhood. But every now and then we'd head out on a longer (or sometimes much longer) route.

Not sure if we were simply lucky back then to not run into freaks, or whether the world has really changed so much now that there are more sickos and whackos around...

He's 11, I highly doubt he has a comprehensive knowledge of downtown Vancouver.

bobbinka 07-27-2017 05:10 PM

the difference is that he was WITH his family for the purpose of biking around Stanley Park. how many of you have been on a family outing as a kid and just went off on your own for 6 hours?

it's like if your parents took you to a movie, you went to take a piss during the movie and never returned. 2 hours later, you're found 10 blocks away.

He's 11 out riding with his family, not some 3 year old on a tricycle
