vent mildew

used to be only when a/c (so defrost as well) was on
now any air will bring in the musty smell

already replaced cabin filter

ample amounts of Lysol through the outer vent only masks the smell, it comes back after a few weeks

narrowed my research down to the klima-cleaner but someone claimed it fried the ECU in his TL

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...e-help-885501/

now what?

i had that smell problem too.

i usually do this

turn ac on max cold, max blower. Spray the air intake (usually in front of the windshield) with the lysol disinfectant spray ALOT. Turn off a/c and blower and let it soak for 5 minutes. Then switch to hot and blower to max, spray again. then soak for 5 minutes

finally spray each individual vent with the blower off.

This should take care of the smell. the soaking is the most important part.

double check to confirm you do not have a refrigerant leak somewhere in your a/c system if this persists. it could be as simple as one of your lines is going bad, or worst case scenario something could be going bad inside your evap core.

i'll see if soaking does the trick

no nothing leaks

If you can find an ozone machine to rent, that's the way to go. Tried the mentioned technique, and just masked the smell, didn't eliminate the odor. Rented an ozone machine from a friend for a weekend and ran it while I had the vents set to recirculate, after running overnight, difference was day and night. It even got rid of shitty cleaner smell I sprayed in vents. This is way to go for sure, just can't use it if there's any moisture present

[edit] Where can you get an ozone generator? home depot? tool rental place?

Twitchy did it work? I just redid mine yesterday after a mild moldy scent was developing.

I just called around detail shops and was able to rent one for a weekend for like $100 I think.

Overseas Auto sells a specific product that can help with this. It's been a few years, but I don't remember the name of it. Pretty sure it's still sold there.

Having said that, I used the product on two of my family's vehicles, and instead of masking the problem, it solved it entirely. Give Jim a call or stop by the shop.

didn't have Lysol on hand for a while...just tried it today let's see if the soaking can prolong the re-applies to months instead of weeks SeemsGood

but yeah there must be a break in the seals...leaky wheel well means slight mold developing beneath trunk carpet...Hondas and their crappy taillight gaskets.
