ive got this set in SAE and Metric in deep and shallow. big fan of the colour and they've held up real well over the years and ive beat on them pretty good. have to add a 15 to the set tho.

princess auto is pretty good.

I doubt you're really going to use 3 of those sizes

Canadian Tire on sale (60+% off) is usually where I get stuff. If you miss a sale try asking customer service to see if they'll honour it, they used to do that for 2 weeks after.

Canadian Tire and Princess Auto have their own brand and its pretty decent. If you want more choices/ selection then I would check out KMS Tools and Summit Tools.

Acklands-Grainger has lots also

17mm and 19mm is all you need :D

Well then I must be going crazy. On my back suspension component bolts (lower link, upper link, toe link) most bolts are
specified as M12x1.50 with different lengths) - tried 17 - doesn't go on, tried 19 - definitely one size too large. In the front (lower control arm) I have M14x1.50 bolts which seem to want a 20mm socket/wrench and again a M12x1.50 which seems to need an 18mm. I have 17, 19 and 21 and unless my admittedly cheap-ass tools are made incorrectly the bolts I need to take off sit right in between what I have.

Is there a 'standard' hex nut/head size for these two sizes?

Thanks!

Canadian Tire for Mastercraft
unless you can afford everything Snap-on

If you just want to buy a single socket, and don't care about matching i've found the best place to be Midland Liquidators on Kingsway, they carry JET. Purchasing a small set, or individual sockets from C Tire will run you dry in short order.

Other then that, I buy only buy Mastercraft Maximum series at C tire, and never less then 60% off. I usually wait for 75%. I've also heard the new Stanley socket sets they carry are quite good and have very small increments close to the Snap on stuff.

I picked this up for $93 when it was on sale last week.

Have you considered trying an 18?

The Mastercraft "300 piece" sets are good starters, but they definitely lack many sizes. My set didn't have allen sockets or keys for either of my Truck (3/8") and Car's (7mm) caliper slide bolts that I didn't know until I needed to do the brakes. Kind of a piss off.

Sounds like you're working on a BMW or another European car

Thanks all,

I went mostly with Princess Auto with some stuff from Canadian Tire as well, whatever was cheapest. Princess has good prices on larger sockets but they only carry 12-point - which I didn't want, so I went with impact 6-points which are not crazy priced either. The only peeve is that when you select your store the item can be listed as 'in-stock' but when you get there - it might not be.

The car is pre-fiat jeep compass rustbucket - and it seems to have 'not commonly included in x-hundred piece sets' sizes all over - e.g. 18mm 16mm
