Which VPN provider do you use?
 

I'm looking for a new VPN provider. I've been using Private internet Access for the last 2 years.

I'm looking to switch VPN providers as PIA's become inconsistent and are blocked by Netflix.

Suggestions?

Currently using PIA, don't think you're gonna find Netflix access...what internet service are you using? PIA has definitely slowed down over the last three months, but it's still quick. I'm DL'ing a one hour TV show in ~10min, but it used to be 2min.

Everything will be blocked by Netflix. So if that's your main need, you'll need to find someone in America to let you use their connection as a VPN.

If PIA is slow, switch to a different server. For me Singapore is MUCH faster than HK, even though their HK server is closer. I get full 30 Mbps through Singapore.

do you just turn it off when you want to watch netflix?

also are you changing setting of the router so every device accessing internet in the house is protected? or just your laptop?

There are a few services out there that guarantee that they can prevent Netflix geolock.

If your router is good, you can set it up there. Most cheap routers are too weak to handle the decryption though I think. It's easier to just install the app on each computer in most cases.

I finally jumped into the VPN world tonight as I heard it kicked around here enough. I had to Google search VPN Revscene as the forum's search doesn't like 3 letter word searches.

Anyways, download was quick and easy. I cancelled the auto renew that PIA adds to your Paypal and they have been emailing me ever since - but I figure if I still like the service in a year, then I will sign up again.

How do I change a server?

You can switch servers manually using their list, or install their app which lets you switch just by right clicking.

BTW there is a link to PIA VPN on the top of literally every page on this site ;) Also we have a built in google search at the top right of every single page on the forum (which should be much more visible than the crappy built in search!) and also on the same drop down as the built in search, which allows 3 character searches. This is part of why I added it LUL

Yes, I see the server options now when I open the app icon - I'm currently on the Seattle server. I had never noticed the advertised link at the top of the page until you mentioned it. I'm a natural blonde.

I'm currently using Windscribe. They seem decent so far - they claim their browser extension can "unlock" Netflix, but to be honest, I haven't really tested that feature out since most of the content I watch on Netflix are really their own exclusive content that isn't blocked. The "works with Netflix" is really a cat and mouse game so I don't think that any VPN provider can guarantee consistent US Netflix operation.

Windscribe does have a "free" 10GB/mo option that limits you to a smaller # of servers, while the paid option gives you 40+ servers around the world. Might be good if you don't heavily use the VPN.

They're a Canadian based operation, so take that for what it is. I got in on a "lifetime" deal which I think was around $40-ish USD at the time. I had used PIA many years ago, and I left them a couple of years ago because the performance was painfully slow. Not sure if things have improved since then or not. Windscribe is a little better - but you're certainly not going to be maxing out your connection with any end user centric VPN provider.

I don't think any VPN can offer full speeds at today's broadband speeds. Imagine a VPN service that could give you 100 mbps.
