Paint Protection Film - worth it?

Hey guys, just picking up my new car soon.
i want to take care of it as much as possible. looking for opinions on paint protections or is it even worth it.

they claim they have self healing properties.. products such as :

3m proseries
protex

and there are a few liquid ones.

Thanks

SSM_DC5 11-21-2017 02:26 PM

The self healing is for minor scratches/swirls

i know protex uses xpel

it cost over 1500 for just the bumper / hood/ mirrors/ lights

Here's a recent thread on this topic:

Just had ppf done on my 2018 GLE63s. Cost around 1000 from PH on Kingsway and they use xpel. I got my bumper and rocker areas covered. Can't even tell it's there and it's well worth it. Especially for me since my truck is black. For added protection I had my detailer put on 3 coats of ceramic coating as well. Protect your possession.

I would probably wash the car before going but I presume they rinse the area down first before applying (to remove any particles that might've fallen onto the car while in transit)?

after researching XPEL SUNTEK and 3M
i will be getting 3M done this week
full front clip / hood

Any chance for a update? I too will be looking for ppf film and a full detail prior to wrap.

That retail shop looks sketcy!

vash13 02-22-2018 09:17 PM

^ I went inside the shop last week and they had a Lamborghini avenatotor fully wrapped in expel. Ronnie is the guy who wraps but his dad is there to look after the shop. I've tried everyday since last Friday to get a hold of Ronnie to get a quote for my car. Starting to get frustrated that he's never there. He's either very busy or just no follow up effort. I recently phoned protex and gloss works and they gave same day quotes for my vehicle.

Gunsmokez 02-22-2018 10:55 PM

Most important is customer service. Especially when ppf has up to 10 year warranty. Does not take alot of effort to pick up a phone.

Any updates on recommendations? PH or Glossworks still good?

mpt2006 05-06-2018 08:06 AM

I am also looking at getting a PPF and/or ceramic coating. Has anyone used Speed Projects Lab in Richmond?

Anyone ppf over old ceramic coating? I've heard of people who coat on top of ppf, but what about in the cases that ceramic coating has been on for a few years and now thinking of ppf.

might not stick very good.paint has to be free from wax or any type of sealnt.recomended on new car paint only

Depends on how old the coating is. If its recent, say less than 12 months, I'd definitely give it a good polish, especially near the edges. Let the installer know so he can prep accordingly. PPF's abilty to stick could be affected by the coating.
