Timing Belt Service Anyone get timing belt done recently for their Honda? The full works like belts, water pump, fluid etc. Just wondering what range of price I should be budgeting for for 98 Prelude so I don't say yes to the first quote I see. Is it worthwhile to do it at Dealership and get OEM? |
IMHO, go OEM and dealership. Phone around for prices. Timing belt is pretty important. |
Just had mine done by the speed syndicate over the weekend in a 89 civic, can’t beat their quality for the price. |
I did my 2001 Prelude last year. Changed all belts, tensioner, idlers, waterpump. About $800 (parts and labour). Most parts are made in Japan by Koyo, NTN or NSK. |
You can ask the Prelude forum and find out who makes the kit for OEM, and then get them directly from an auto part store. When I asked how much it costs to change the timing belt on my 08 Accord V6 at a Honda dealer, they quoted me CAN$1200. |
Yes it's in that range for prelude too at dealer. I imagine part of the price difference is due to OEM parts? Quote:

if ride is fairly decent shape , getting a new ride just barbecue of timing belt is kinda stupid. getting belt work done is not as scary as people think. |
i got a quote for timing belt at the dealer.. it was $700 for my MDX if you want to do everything ( water pump/ gaskets/ seals ) $1200 |
porobably a walk in the park compared to my lexus V8. Expect 3-400 in labour |
If you havent done it yet and don't want to go to a dealership, message jackp0t, he'll probably do it for you if he has time. He knows his stuff as he's been working on H22's for a long time. |
