Why are Lexus/Acura etc priced so much higher than book?

Recently I noticed this 06 is350 for sale for $25k

https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/...429304075.html

According to VMR, this car is a simple is350 (not an isf) so it's values are around 6-9k. There are others for around 20k from dealers that are the same age, but with higher mileage.

Why this disparity in pricing? Is it simply due to demand? What's the true value of this car considering it's not a "collectors status" vehicle yet.

thanks in advance

That guy is high on some real good stuff asking $25K for a 2006 IS350.
There is probably 1000 or more cars you can find for better value!

GS8 12-20-2017 05:41 PM

Because shitty magazines like Consumer Reports have convinced people that it's worth it to pay more for a car brand because of reliability scores. The irony being a car can only be as reliable as the owner allows it to be.

Overpriced as hell, max that thing is worth probably $12k lol. Its an IS350, not an s2k or ITR :troll:

Ummm 2002 sc430s are still selling for 15-20k depending on package and colour/kms.

While 25k is Cray Cray a Lexus usually does hold its value.

There's only 2 is350's for sale odd. Reliable car though

^ I am forever following the Sc430 market too They just aren't depreciating anymore

Nlkko 12-20-2017 07:00 PM

That gen is350 is like 13k -14k top. Last I search 2-3 years ago back there was a bunch for sale for like 16k, unless they went up in price which is unlikely.

twitchyzero 12-20-2017 08:37 PM

personally wouldn't pay more than 12k for it
20k+ is IS-F territory

it sure has aged well, i'll give them that

Makes sense. NA v8/ Lexus / convertible/ rwd/ hydraulic steering/

These things can go 300k's and not break a sweat. 3uzfe are amazing engines. Not as good as 2jz but I would say just about as robust as 2jz. Very similar to the 1uzfe from the old Ls400 which can and will go a million miles.

I miss mine....

not sure about ACURAs being overly priced...but a 3G TL Type S is priceless...i'd pay top dollar for one again.

i sold my dads 08 IS AWD for 12k.. it had under 120k. i tried trading it in, it was worth 10k

That's a good sign. No one is selling them and the ones that are for sale, usually sell quickly.

There's a pretty decent reliability tax on Tacoma's and Highlanders too

It doesn't matter how well the owner takes care of it if the original design was junk, and some cars handle abuse better than others. I've seen cars that are babied grenade prematurely and I've seen cars receive nothing but abuse and keep on going. Examples being the Lexus owned by a woman in the US who put something like 100k miles on it without even getting the oil changed, compared to all the newer Chrysler 5.7's out there that get everything done on time and still fail with a fraction of the mileage.

The vehicle in posted by OP is owned/maintained by a Toyota Master Mechanic, which in itself, comes with a tax. The over inflation of the price could also be a result of a reluctance to sell.

how is consumer reports in any way a shitty magazine? theyre literally the only legit magazine out their who isnt paid off by advertisers.

take a vehicle like say the dodge journey which consumer reports shit all over for good reason, doesnt matter how well you maintain it, will always be POS chrysler

I insist that you find out for us.

teggy604 12-22-2017 09:00 AM

Price will come down when no one offers them anything close to that. Its not a collector vehicle or anything special.
