Buying a new car on end of the year? Anyone have any insight to sales rep willing to do heavy discounts on NYE? My buddy tells me some sales will want to try to get a year end number up for their annual bonus. Currently in the market for a 2017 RAV4, heard toyota is pretty firm with their pricing too. |
You're on the right track with dealerships wanting to move cars at th end of the month and year. That being said, Toyota doesn't typically budge very much. Their cars sell really well so they don't usually have to offer as big a discount. |
There are a couple things you need to consider: 1) Re-sale value 2) Write-off value Several years down the road, people are going to base the value of your vehicle on model year, mileage, condition, and trim. It doesn't matter if you bought it new 1 month into the 2017 MY or 15 months into the 2017 MY. Also, the vehicle will be written off at a lower cost and for a lower payout for similar reasons. I would definitely recommend you consider how much you're saving relative to a 2018 and compare the predicted re-sale value for, say, 2023. |
I'm kinda scared with 2018 without reading much on it on carcomplaints.com. New models will be too new to have problems reported. But you have a valid point with resale value. I am hoping to use it 10 years. At that point, reselling on 2028 for a 2017 vs 2018 model probably make little difference. But I cant predict the future and I might sell in 3 years down the road rather than 10. |
the current RAV4 has been around for 5 years your fears of buying MY2018 are unfounded |
I think this is the BEST time of year to get a great deal from a dealer. I remember buying one in the last week of December a long time ago. |
From what I hear from my friends at OpenRoad HQ, they can give better deals than Toytoa reps. Maybe try to find one of those OpenRoad Brand Ambassadors? |

To my knowledge, I think most of the 2017 Rav4s were all sold out several weeks ago at OpenRoad Toyota Richmond. We are have the 2018 ones in stock now. There's not much change with the 2018 aside with the new addition of the 2018 Rav4 Trail package. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with! |
I feel also if you are willing to pay the entire car outright without finance/lease, a bit more open in giving a bigger discount. |
From my experience in purchasing cars, the best year end deals usually start in summer of June/July, but probably varies between dealerships. . . |
