You know if you dropped 20k a year to gain a couple thousand in benefits from a tax plan you don't come out ahead right?
Its not motivation to do less just because poor peoples lives become slightly less shitty than before.
The problem is so many people who are doing just fine are so selfish that they believe they deserve the help more than those that are actually struggling.
I'd love for the middle class in Canada to receive some financial help, however, I'm happy to wait for the lower class to get it first before I start thinking I should.

What the fuck.... I hate you NDP. 150k is chump change you assholes. I can't even buy a nicely used 458 with that money. Clowns

Some of them are doing just fine because they work harder/more...

lol heard somewhere that they're budgeting something like $70M for wildfires this year.

didn't we break $500M+ last year?

lol RIP to that "surplus" if this summer turns out to be a scorcher

interested to see how the housing market will take in these changes over the next couple of years

By my understanding, I don't like the childcare benefit. An family income level of $79000 receives a hair under $11,000 in childcare benefit, almost enough for free childcare, while a family with an income of $80,000 receives $0

A concern I have is that costs are usually tied to affordability. If daycare is $1200/month, it is because that is the neighbourhood that enough families can afford daycare to justify the business to operate. Now with so many families being subsidized that amount, more families will be in day care, possibly causing daycare to increase their prices due to supply/demand and have an extra $900 a month for it will cause affordability to go up. Could we see day care spaces climb from $1200/month to $1500/month or more? If so, that is a double fuck over of middle class families: No cash benefit, and a direct increase in cost due to the benefit.

I thought childcare benefits were moving towards a universal approach, this is the opposite and penalizes hard working families.

How many times have the middles class be screw? I would say every single time when a new budget plan comes out. I am not asking for free hand outs but maybe help us a little like you know reduce gas tax for everyone? Or how about lower PST so everyone gets something out of it? Or lower property tax for any property that's less than 600k? That would help a lot of family too.

Also there are little to no info how will the gov pay with all the spendings. I am going to assume there are going to be some sort of tax increase in one form or another that will hit the middle class. Single middle class gets screw the most yet we spend the most and gets the least benefits.

It will be like back in the early 90s housing market drops no one wants to invest or buy and economy comes to a slow down and people start losing jobs unless you are in a union......

Regarding MSP, surprise surprise, it isnt going away, its just disappearing for the average person. With it now being rolled into payroll taxes, thats a double whammy for small business owners with the NDP just announcing the skyrocketing minimum wage.

If the business has a payroll of $500k or less per year, it's exempt from the MSP tax. So it shouldn't hit small businesses too much, if at all.

i had included a paragraph on that but removed it before i posted

At least they exempted businesses with payroll under $500k, Im actually surprised they did that. $500k isnt as big of a payroll as it looks tho. Thats like 10 full time employees at an average company $14k for $1m payroll so maybe a $2m revenue company might not seem like much, but that is probably a business with 20 employees (not exactly a big corporation) and every little gouge out of profits hurts businesses that are already being hammered by increased taxes, payroll, and costs of doing business.

Totally agree with this
Me as a middle class who work my ass off and often overtime just to get taxed the shit out of me..............

Mr.HappySilp 02-20-2018 10:29 PM

Here is a though as to why the middle class always get screw over.

Politicians need funding for their party and a lot of these fundings come from wealthy/rich people/companies/union. So if any policy they made put the people who provide them with the funding they can say bye bye to funding. However, they still need people to vote for them so the policy they come up with will always provide the most to the poor/low income because there are always more people/low income people than the rich or middle class. These policy will also affect very little to the rich so they are more than willing to keep funding the politicians.

As for the middle class well there isn't enough middle class voters that will change the outcome of the elections vs the poor/low income and middle class don't provide enough funding for politicians. Therefore let's screw up the middle class everytime coz their votes doesn't matter.

Lol the biggest losers I think are the businesses. They're taking the heavy burden of the tax hit. And to make matters worse, they also have to deal with the raising wages later on. Might be some companies relocating out, and big companies probably think twice now before moving over.

MarkyMark 02-21-2018 06:06 AM

As someone who might possibly start a family in the next couple of years this is kind of a piss off. I often calculate it out and money would be so razor thin that I don't think it's worth it or fair to the kid to bother going ahead with it. We make what's considered decent money for this city but what's considered decent is actually fuck all when you add a mortgage in today's prices.

Meanwhile someone making barely anything at all can pump out a kid and just let the government top them up. Obviously I don't want to trade places with them but when they're having kids and I'm up at night thinking about how to pull it off there's a problem no?

Hondaracer 02-21-2018 07:40 AM

Also let’s face it, odds are the “low income” families that reap the benefits of the free childcare aren’t all of a sudden going to join the work force in some astonishing capacity. What’s the incentive to do that? So the second non-working person can earn just enough per year to push them into the bracket back into having to pay for child care?

So businesses are taking a hit (which will invariably effect the middle class), natural resource industry, real estate, huh. That leaves BC with...?

This is probably the closet-socialist in me talking, but if you, in your current described situation, were to "pump out a kid" by accident, the financial worries you face versus the worries a low income family faces are going to be considerably different.

And to whomever said these new reforms actively encourage people to earn less money/be lazier, wtf?? That's some single-lane shallow-ass thinking.

So as 'middle-class', you saw these new rules, and thought "WOW! I'm gonna take a pay hit so I can now reap government benefits!!"...riight.

So I'm the sucker who's getting his Performante in July and will have to pay the hefty new PST increase, fuck me.

You think you can badger the dealership into cutting you some slack?

Doubt it. Only thing I can do is remove some options and save some money.

From what I've heard the BC Car Dealers Association is a big Liberal donor so it's rumored this tax hike might be political. Hopefully the dealers can put some pressure and maybe delay the tax but I highly doubt it.

See but that's the point. He's actually planning for a family. Not having kids "by accident".

You'd probably agree though, it does lower the incentive for low income earners to want to advance
