OEM key fob replacements
 

I'm looking at a used car that only has one OEM key fob, no spares. I don't feel comfortable with just one fob.

I've tried Google and got many hits of internet sites that claim to have OEM replacements, but I'm not sure if they are chinese fakes, etc., and I don't know who to choose.

Is Fleabay the only place to get one, short of paying full retail at the dealership?

Junkyard, might have to dig in a big box of mixed ones.

I just bought a used vehicle with the same.problem.
I got mine off of eBay. Just make sure it's a VIRIGIN and is able to be reprogrammed

If he doesn't have it. Just make sure you buy one from the state's and not CHINA!

Also. Low ball the car seller and say the keys will cost about 600 to be replaced

That may not work as some key fobs may only be programmed once

Just a heads up if you buy online, it may or may not program correctly to the vehicle. Only way to 100% guarantee it'll work is to purchase it from the dealership and have them program it.

is the used car still in the warranty period? they may have the 'key replacement warranty' on it .

Yea. Toyota wanted $450 for brand new programmed key. I was like eff that. Went to eBay. Did my thing. Final cost was just under $200

I had the same problem at one time but it wasn't because I only had one key. I had two OEM keys but wanted a third one as the back-up.

The only tricky part is getting your key there for them to copy because you only have one key so, unless you're willing to park your car for a little while, you might need to consider a road trip.

That said, when I got this done, I did combine this trip with a road trip so my wife and I enjoyed a few days' stay in Portland, did some shopping, etc. and got the OEM key copied in the same time that it takes Home Depot to copy a key for the house. If you're planning on going down there, I would suggest calling beforehand to ensure that they have the key FOB blanks in stock for you before you make that trip.

you haven't said which car, but don't be afraid to call the dealer. I've bought 2 bmw keys/fobs for less money than I thought it would be.

I heard that a locksmith are able to program car fobs too. I've been searching and still haven't done it yet but that's the cheapest alternative I can think of.

My idea was to pick the same keyfob from the net and get them done.

Yes. Lock Smith can do it also.
Toyota wanted 66 bucks. Lock Smith wanted 60.
I went with Toyota. They gave my car a wash too
