Hidden-camera prove into new car sales in BC W5 teams up with the Automobile Protection Association to get an undercover look at car dealerships in the Greater Vancouver Area to reveal the extra fees and months-long waits for delivery that you should be aware of before purchasing a vehicle. Some good footage on Kia Richmond, Columbia Chrysler of Richmond, Carter Honda etc. that may be new information to most consumers. |
I remember buying my car from that Mazda dealership at the Richmond Auto Mall. Paid $3000 cash (with taxes) all in. Easier than buying a TV on Boxing Day. Between the rich who lease new and all the delusional suburban plebs who aren't richer than they think, this story won't get much traction to make people think cautiously when they're buying. The euphoric desire of want is usually too strong for many people to contain. |
so sales doing salesy things? reminds of restaurants in other parts that charge for bread and napkins |
dealerships are scammers, buyers beware. so whats new? lol *let me rephrase, they are not scammers but can leave out some info for their convenience. do some research before you make probably the 2nd biggest purchase of your life. |
Go Green fee ? Brokerage fee ?! I'd tell them to go green themselves. That's some bullshit I'd call them out on right there. Never had any dealership charge me that crap. Usual fees are Doc fee Tire levy Air conditioner tax PDI Sales tax Might be a few more but I don't remember. |
I never understood the documentation fee of any business. It's like charging you for a process of making the sale. It's so stupid. |

I'm just about to close on the biggest purchase of my life too and don't even get me started on the Property Transfer Fee like my god fuck you. |
I've only ever bought one car, used, from a dealership. It was a Porsche 944 theft recovery that I bought at one of those super-shady small Langley dealerships. Took an hour to negotiate the price to what I wanted to pay, and then another hour and half of removing every little fee or extra they tried to build in. I won't buy new from a dealership for two reasons: 1) drop of value the moment I take it off the lot and 2) I don't pay doc fees, PDI or dealer-scam fees when I buy milk, clothes, or electronics. I sure as hell am not paying them on a car. Sorry, is my #oldman is showing? -Dave |
I thought they had like an “investigative report” before and the only fee you should ever have to pay at a dealer is a documentation fee and sometimes can get that waived as well? |

The fact that we pay tax on used cars is the biggest joke. |

FailFish I dunno when, where, or how I picked this up, but when I go into a dealership to purchase a car, I thought the thing to do was to always just negotiate on an out-the-door all-inclusive price. I dun care what kind of bs fees they want to write down on the sales invoice. I only care about the exact dollar figure on the bank draft that I'll cut them. Seems to have worked well for me in my last 2 car purchases. Then again, the dealerships and sales persons I was dealing with were pretty reasonable too. |
This Market place video is even worse. One woman buys a new Kia. It's a lemon so 3 months later the dealer gets her to trade it in for a more expensive Kia. Because after the trade in she still owes money on the first car she is going to end up paying 50K for a Kia. She had to get a second job to pay it off. |

The Ticketmaster fee example I gave where each ticket had a $30 service fee drives me crazy but the fee was stated up front so there were no surprises. With that said when it comes to most other purchases I just look at the total price., I don;t care if it's $1 item and $99 shipping or $100 with free shipping it's if I want to pay $100 for it. Maybe it's that the service fee is so blatantly a big fuck you that drives me crazy I don't know. |
