8 series made sense when they killed off the 6 series
but things don't have to make sense in Vancouver when people are lusting for the Lambo Urus

give the rest of us that Tesla killer platform already

BIC_BAWS 06-28-2018 02:25 PM

Real life picture found. Looks like I'm not the only one who sees mustang.

They don't make them like they use to

Why is every post about a new car littered with comments of the car looking like this car, or that car, or x+y+z mashed into one, etc.

Every car is going to resemble something else that's been done before... there's only so many ways you can design a car and still make it look appealing.

When people start going out of the box and making things like the Aztek or the old Tribeca, no one likes it.

they share the name and nothing else.

the original 8 was ahead of its time.... the current 8, just another car of its time.

original 8 was one of the first production cars with drive by wire throttle!

also, no B pillar.... (which is still cool to this day)

Same to be said for the rumored 4-door mustang, the new Supra (Z4), the Mitsubishi Eclipse (which is now a SUV).

Mfgs should really stop using a "legendary" name for something that won't ever really live up to the classics. The brand recognition of a "Supra" isn't the new Z4, it's the old school one.

Also that production model 8 series actually looks more like a BMW rather than a mustang.

Since this is Vancouver, it would be more likely be driven by a 5'5 Chinese kid that could potentially look male or female, wearing orange shoes and a pink MCM backpack...

freakshow 11-19-2018 11:39 AM

it looks so.. normal

The 90's 850csi now fetch for over $100K, for a clean one that is. Timeless design.

Recently took a quick drive in one of these as they start to arrive to dealers

Exterior is quite nice. Moving past the mustang references etc it is actually a pretty beautifully designed big coupe. The road presence this has is surprising as normally people don't really bat an eye at most BMW's in Richmond but I witnessed a guy take out his phone and take some pics in traffic.

Interior is nice but sort of underwhelming considering everything thats in it is 99% out of the new X5. Apart from the nicer leather the entire design follows the new BMW language which is pretty much expected, just wished the 8 had more uniqueness to it

Engine/Driving Dynamics is where this beast shines. The way this car moves is very surprising considering its size. The power is much greater than the old 6 series and you can feel it keep on pulling with 0 turbo lag. Handling is okay with the rear steering helping the chassis move and typical BMW steering feel but you can't expect track performance from this big GT car.

Overall - drives better than it looks. Comfy luxurious and fast. M8 should be quite the monster.

twitchyzero 01-01-2019 11:26 PM

i can't comprehend how these are almost as fast as the Model 3 Performance

2-tonne chassis!

donjalapeno 01-02-2019 07:39 AM

I would take a S63 Coupe over the 8 any day.

I sell BMWs.... and I stand by this opinion. :lawl:

Just something about the S coupe...... I'd take one of those S coupe AMG's even over a Bentley Conti coupe! :alonehappy:

LP700-4 01-02-2019 10:41 AM

No doubt the S coupe is an amazing car - way more “baller” status for sure

But have to consider the S63 is a good 60k more than the 8, the S560 coupe is still 30k off from the 8’s msrp and the 8 outperforms the S560 in every way

tofu1413 01-02-2019 11:23 AM

8 series is good value.. but when you get to that segment, the world "value" isnt usually visited.

the S class coupe interior just has a bit of a more bespoke feel to it, especially with piano black and the designo interiors!

Nlkko 01-02-2019 12:01 PM

S class interior is beautiful and classy as it should be as an industry-leading standard.

Also the original 8 has a car phone! That V12 gives an endless wall of torque. Great GT car. Too bad it'd end up in the shop 6 months of the year.
