ASUS ROG phone

90Hz HDR OLED...want to see in-person!
the accessories are even more ridiculous

Vansterdam 06-05-2018 06:51 AM

better than the razer phone?

SkinnyPupp 06-05-2018 07:24 AM

Pointless

Manic! 06-05-2018 01:05 PM

Not pointless in many countries a phone is the only gaming/internet connected device they have. I like the idea it's thicker than other phones, has a headphone jack and can be witlessly connected to a TV. Also comes with an adapter that has a lan port!!!

Apparently it can run PUBG and Fortnite.

Phones are pretty much another appendage of kids these days. It makes sense.

Edit: watched the video, that thing is huge. There hasn't been much success to mobile and hand held gaming outside the PS Vita and Nintendo systems though. I would call this a long shot.

ScizzMoney 06-05-2018 01:52 PM

Candy Crush made more money than every other game last year didn't it? I'd call that a success :P

(I know what you mean though, dedicated gaming device, etc. etc.)

DragonChi 06-05-2018 02:17 PM

I meant in terms of hardware, as my examples show.

Fortine and pubg on mobile is massive. That's all kids do during lunch break and recess. It's actuality causing problems in some schools.

I tried PUBG mobile and it's just like playing the PC version. The company Tencent that makes the mobile version also now makes a PC emulator so you can play the mobile version on your computer with other computer players. Almost no point in buying the PC version.

twitchyzero 06-06-2018 12:18 AM

mobile gaming isn't for me
but there's no denying its presence
esp with steam streaming support

i'm still not convinced this and the razer phone will have a big enough of an impact unless priced aggressively..and that's not gonna happen with those specs and feature-packed accessories

it'll become another n-gage, another xperia play
no the PSP has no long term relevance...it's almost a failure and just barely saved by some jrpgs...just a drop in the bucket compared to Gameboys etc.

Nah. It's just a dick wagging contest. Those games run on pretty much everything. You don't need a 'gaming phone' to play 'phone games'. Even shooters. Pointless for the consumer.

FerrariEnzo 06-06-2018 05:51 AM

Buy a $1000 phone just to play games.. then battery dies and cant use phone anymore.. then people will complain phones need a bigger battery... lol cycle continues..

Mr.HappySilp 06-06-2018 06:59 AM

Watch Linus tech tips about this phone. Personally I wouldn't bother with it. Sure it have many features but it is just a phone meaning after a year or two there will be new version that's better. Also android comes out a new version every year. Will this phone be support after a year? 2 years? Is not like a gaming console where it will last for years or a gaming PC where it is easy to do DIY upgrades.

It have too many accessories to support it and carrying the accessories takes up room in your bag.

Have you tried pubg mobile? It's very simular to the PC version graphics and game play wise. My one plus 3 can't run it on the highest settings. I think in Asian countries it could be big because that's the only internet connected device they have. For many the first phone the house ever had was a cellphone.

ScizzMoney 06-06-2018 08:10 PM

Just gotta face the fact some people are old and will never get that phones are made differently and some games have minimum specs like PC games do. First gen iPhone can't even run clash of clans for frigs sake, haha.

I get what you're saying, and there is a market for phones that perform well in games. But phones like this and the Razer are not actual phones for people to buy. They are dick picks for the companies to brag about. Just look at the title in the video OP posted. That's what it's all about, creating buzz for the Asus brand. The actual phones people want to buy for gaming are out there, and they don't need unnecessary things like high refresh rate screens and crap like that. A phone doesn't need to be "insane" to be useful for gaming, or even to be REALLY damn good at at.

I've seen this a million times over the past two decades. Nobody is going to buy these other than fanboys and people with a lot of money who don't know any better. The rest will stick to high performance Samsungs, iphones, etc. if they really care about performance.

twitchyzero 06-07-2018 09:13 PM

have you tried the new ipad with adaptive refresh rate?
was bummed the iPhone x didn't have it
i'm more of a resolution kinda guy but in mobile I think I would actually prefer 90hz 1080p over the now run-of-mill 1440p

nothing wrong with these products even if it wont sell well...if no one tried pushing the envelope we'll all be still be stuck with 480p (re: car audio decks)
i'm still sticking with Pixels & iPhones but i'm glad one of the big guys is giving the option of PC-like specs...8GB mem, highly clocked CPU, 512GB storage, shoulder buttons, higher motion quality

Yes mobile game is huge in places like China and its crazy, but no one is going to shell out crazy money for an android phone here in China period

If they are going to shell out crazy money for android phone, they might as well go for an iPhone and that's facts

I know a ton of ppl in China that bought chinese android phones cuz specs aren't bad, not pricey and pretty much does the job........plus with aftermarket iPhones these days, iPhones are pretty cheap now (if your not going for the latest model, 300cnd and u get a 128gb iPhone 7)

This is just like the Moto Z with all the accessories, it's just way to expensive

Xiaomi has the shark phone, that just comes with a joy con and that cheaper then this

FerrariEnzo 06-20-2018 06:15 PM

too flashy for me..

Manic! 12-02-2018 05:03 PM

PUBG mobile tournament 600k in prize money.

Mobile gaming is going to be big.

Mobile gaming is going to be huge, but not big enough for someone to shell out 2k for a phone

1k is just the phone its self, 2k should be for the whole package including the suitcase
