Reposting from Rennlist

Is this the Porsche that doesn’t abide by regulations? So it has more downforce and power and grip etc. I saw it smash other lap records too already

bcrdukes 06-29-2018 08:03 AM

That is correct.

Porsche pulled out of WEC in 2017 because they wanted to showcase what it could do. The vehicle did not meet the fuel and aerodynamic restrictions imposed by WEC regulation.

Good. I think we need less regulation in top level Motorsport. Competition is what truly drives innovation, though that’s not to say that “creative interpretation” of the rule book doesn’t do the same thing.

what happened to speed limits and no more lap times on the ring?

nsx042003 06-29-2018 10:38 AM

did he miss the line or was it intentional at the Carousel?

the speed is insane, faster than a F1

320icar 06-29-2018 11:19 AM

Probably intentional. The carousel is super bumpy and at that speed it would probably unsettle the suspension too harshly

I've always wanted Red Bull or some company like it to make a car that is designed to go fast. Not just fast but faster than any other car before it without stupid regulations and restrictions. Sort of like the Class B rally cars of old. Just something built purely for non sanctioned lap times. Obviously will proper safety equipment but otherwise just crazy power and design.

F1 cars are supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport but we know they could be much much faster if they were allowed to.

Berz out.

I think that it would be this: https://media.astonmartin.com/aston-...-001-hypercar/

That still looks like a street car. Not a car designed for the sole purpose of going fast at any cost.

They did this thing?

"The Red Bull X2010 (originally named Red Bull X1) is a fictional prototype vehicle featured in the PlayStation 3 video game Gran Turismo 5. It reappeared in Gran Turismo 6. The Red Bull X2010 appeared on the Goodwood Festival of Speed and in Madrid.[1] The digital creation was a response to Kazunori Yamauchi's question: "If you built the fastest racing car on land, one that throws aside all rules and regulations, what would that car look like, how would it perform, and how would it feel to drive?"[2] The Prototype was designed by Red Bull Racing Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey in conjunction with Yamauchi."

Ah yes exactly. Did it ever drive though?

i assumed the X2010 was the future of f1

the next time someone scoffs at your hybrid or 4-banger...

can someone explain how it took 35 years to beat a record? was the previous driver just too god-like or restrictions got exponential tighter?
