Hardest part is finding a good deal on a diesel truck |
Early gen diesels are the 240sx of the truck world. Everyone thinks their clapped out rust bucket is worth 10k |
Unless you tow 24/7 8000lb+ trailers or really like diesel/roll coal it's not really worth it compared to a half ton. I had a 2011 F350 6.7L, now have a 2018 F150 3.5L ecoboost. The F350 guzzled tons of fuel, rode hard because of heavy duty suspension and the maintenance was roughly double compared to a gas. F350 oil change was $200 while my 3.5L ecoboost was $76. The coolness of driving a diesel wore off after I got a emission failure warning. |
yup these modern diesels will put your ass in idle only mode for certain emissions faults. leave you pooched. |

dollar per pound.. and they sold a metric ass tonne of them. parts are plentiful and cheap. they aren't for everyone. but if you take the time to understand them, they're more than worth it. anyways i'll stop throwing up the 6.0 now lol. |
LLY for $4800 Needs head gaskets tho. Still pretty good price. Probably take $4k https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/...675943661.html |
My buddy just bought a 6.0 to daily, going to need to put welfare's 6.0 knowledge to use here |
Absolutely. Does it run? Lol |
What about a bmw or Benz diesel? Any feedback on one? Like a x5 X6? Don't know if they had a X6 diesel in na. Or a ml diesel? Seems like a good family hauler for a few years until the price of electric cars come down and charging is more friendly. |

What are the downsides to an 02, f350, 7.3, auto, 4x4? Also, what are the best years for 3/4T Ram and GM, with an auto? |

They're reliable, easy to work on, and basic enough that most issues can be diagnosed and repaired with minimal equipment. They're a HEUI injection system, so high pressure oil leaks, specifically at the injector seals, are somewhat common. Quote:
Mind you the auto tranny will be the weak point. If you can find one with upgrades to it (the tranny) would be some peace of mind. The lb7 01-04 were pretty common for injector issues but the part has been updated. Several times i believe. And many of these trucks have probably had them replaced with the updated units. Also utilizes that cp3 pump. Most of them don't incorporate any emissions systems so fuel mileage and reliability are usually better for these years. Like i said though, it's pretty subjective. As always, it's dollar per pound analysis for me. I have seen head gasket issues on just about all years of duramax. Usually the fire ring blows out on both cylinders 7 and 2. Not extremely common but enough that it should be made aware. Lb7's used aluminum injector cups sealed with o rings in between the water jacket and injector. A damaged cup or o ring can be misdiagnosed as head gasket failure as it will overpressurize the cooling system similarly. There are of course methods to test and determine what you're dealing with. |
I wouldn't bother with these light duty diesels. If you need a diesel, you likely need payload and high engine load for long time periods. Go with a commercial system and don't look back. |

trucks already starting to smoke with this colder weather :( takes forever to warm up now |

Honestly, a piece of canvas over top of your grill is the best way of getting your engine to warm up quickly. |
You mean cardboard? Lol ran that way all winter in MB. Maybe not suitable for BC. Lol |
Either or works. Canvas doesn't disintegrate when it rains. |
|
^^I'm failing to see a problem :smug: |
