I said NDP would win
Don’t think anyone expected it to be this close though.

The real loser in this election is the eroding trust in the democratic process: https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2024/1...ays-professor/
We should all be concerned that we can't have trust in our institutions.

A guy at work has worked 4-5 elections now both federally and provincially
The provincial election seems much harder to fudge any number or “miss” votes as opposed to the federal ones he’d been a part of.
The federal elections seemed like most was done by hand and a few votes here or there could be easily missed. Ultimately if it was close enough you’d get a recount anyways but he said the general process for the federal one is far less controlled or accurate than the provincial ones he’s been a part of up to this point

Either political side, middle class loses | It really depends how you define the "middle class".
If you're a household that makes under 150K-175K, you're better off with the NDP. Most households in BC are at this threshold, or below, despite the lifestyle inflation that we see here.
If you're a household that is salaried but beyond that range and up the 400-500K mark, you pay more under the NDP.

Our household's at like 450 from what we could tell:
Outside of the 11B deficit Rustad wanted to run (50%? higher than NDP):
- Carbon tax and mortgage interest savings would go straight to ICBC
- Our small biz expansion would be slower since we use EV tax credit to add Lightning/Silverado at net 0 cost with gas savings.
- Since cons wouldn't force municipalities to upzone, our friends who are starting to do smaller redevelopment projects would likely have less opportunities
We also thought plans to fund Surrey infra were a bit silly compared to funding Burnaby/Vancouver.
They got a lot of seats but Burnaby/Coq/Port Moody seemed like a smarter bet with its existing mass transit lines.

I'm glad I got my heat pump when I did, I would just barely not qualify for any provincial rebate under the NDP's new program.

Canada's income tax rate (much less sales tax or corp tax rate) is around 33% which isn't even close to the top tax rate countries which are all in the 50% range. Canada is in the same category as Cyprus and Malaysia. The US comes in at 37%.
We're nowhere close to being too high.

The Saskatchewan Party is a right wing party headed by a guy was driving drunk and got into an accident killing a mother and leaving her son injured. He fled the scene.

The US and Canada even had opposite governments for a period of time and both got worse during those times.

The Bloc Quebecois are delusional. Delulu! https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2024/1...adline-passes/
The Bloc Québécois is ready to make good on a threat to work with other parties to bring down the minority government now that the Liberals have failed to meet their demands, Leader Yves-François Blanchet said Tuesday.
Blanchet set the deadline last month, putting the Liberals on notice that to avoid an election “before Christmas” they must adopt a pair of private member’s bills.
One of the Bloc bills, aimed at safeguarding supply management in trade negotiations, has the support of the government and is being studied by the Senate.
The other, which would raise old age security payments for seniors under 75, is one the Liberals say they do not support. The measure would cost an estimated $16 billion over five years.
Blanchet said his discussions with the other opposition parties will start Tuesday, and the government is in serious danger of falling.
Not only is the Bloc ready for an election, he said, “we might be expecting that with enthusiasm.”
So far during this fall sitting of Parliament, the Liberals have survived two non-confidence votes put forward by the Conservatives, with the Bloc and NDP voting against Tories.

I wonder if he would re-consider sticking to a normal election timeline, instead of trying to hold it early next year (in Q1/Q2)...

BC Child Benefit: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/f...maximum-annual
Based on how this benefit is calculated, you start to not get any benefits at around 160K income per year if you have two kids.
New NDP co-mortgage housing plan for first time homebuyers - look at the income threshold for 2-bedroom units: https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2024HOUS0044-001557
BC Heat Pump Conversion Incentives: https://www.betterhomesbc.ca/rebates...qualifications
Income threshold for heat pump incentives is capped at 185K annual household income.
EV rebates: https://goelectricbc.gov.bc.ca/rebat...offers/#income
If you're a household in the 180K or above, it's highly likely that both working adults will make at least 80K, which means you won't get the full rebate or perhaps none at all if you're above the 200K HHI threshold.

For anyone who thought the claims Kamala would let felons get gender reassignment surgeries in the US were absurd, it happens here in Canada to the -worst of the worst- on the tax payers fucking dime Quote:
Desousa, then named Adam Laboucan, was 15 years old in 1997 when she sexually assaulted an infant she was babysitting in Quesnel, B.C. The baby required surgery to repair the injuries
| Quote:
Desousa, who underwent gender-affirming operations while serving an indefinite sentence, also admitted to drowning a three-year-old boy when she was 11 years old, which the judge in the sexual assault case said was below the age of criminal responsibility.
The best part though is now this fucking psycho sack of shit is going to get granted leave to attend some fucking BS cultural bullshit… ffs..
