I saw a dude drive a nice 488 yesterday and the first thing that popped into my mind was how uncomfortable that car is. The ride is stiff as a seahorse mattress, the footwell has no space for tall drivers since it slants into your left leg, and how getting in and out of it is such an ordeal due to it being so low and the wide door sills.

Just look at that footwell... where the shit are you suppose to put your left leg? im 6'2 and i cant sit in that damn thing for more than 15 minutes without my back going out.

like Ferarri cares about how you fit in the car.

the biggest market for 488 are clearly small scrawny asian kids and 80 pound chinese girls with 3 inch high heels.

Subtle as always I guess...

I couldn't tell there was any diff from stock.
But I'm not a hardcore Golf fan that would be able to pick up all the subtle differences.

Is this how the Supra looks like or is there a kit on it?
I'm not really digging the rear fender arch at all. Seems like a weird location in where it meets up with the door.

tiger_handheld 03-20-2019 08:22 PM

Is that Supra a 10second car?

Akinari 03-20-2019 08:28 PM

Everything I saw before and after that 512M just completely and utterly paled in comparison to its timeless awesomeness. Apparently it’s 1 of 25 and part of a local 35-car collection.

Side note, I was thoroughly impressed by the Kia Telluride. The interior is excellent in every possible way.

Going to the auto show just reminds me of how boring and homogenous new cars are these days, especially the all the endless amounts of huge touchscreens.

Well it's a BMW so you push it?

My “didn’t expect that I’d like it” pick of the show was the new RAV-4 trail edition, I liked the display vehicles colour with the little orange accents inside. Very fun.

I am really feeling the Golf R... not in viper green and not with an oettinger Kit... but sitting inside it everything just felt so right.

Can anyone explain why Mazda offers the red MX-5 with the saddle brown interior colour? So nasty lol...

pastarocket 03-21-2019 12:38 PM

-sat inside the Kia Stinger at the show this morning. -pretty good fit and finish.

Does the Stinger's handling and performance measure up well against the 3 series?
:considered:

The Senna is sooo sick. FeelsGoodMan

I believe it comes in black leather as well, with the brown being an option.

Brown leather interior might be the new trend. When we were shopping recently, we saw several brands that insisted the top trim level comes with brown leather. Subaru and Mazda are two that immediately jump to mind.

$5 off using ORAG19

BCAA members get a discount when entering their membership number too, I think their price is $13.00.

show was mediocre at best - wife wanted to look at new BMW suv's (gross) would not have gone if I'd known they were a no show this year.

Mazda didn't have an RF there which is dumb? (i may have missed it) Jag and LR had the most heinous copper wrapped cars all over their booth. The Bullet mustang is a dark horse pick for me after renting a '18 5.0 at christmas. Kind of want, except never would buy an american car.

Nothing else was really interesting to me - Kia had a booth? LOL who cares. Same for Mitsubishi. Booths were dead. My grandma doesn't go to the car show.

Overall no MB and BMW kills the show for me, and I can sit in the cars all day at Porsche Langley C&C

Side note because it's not part of the show per se - the Jack Poole plaza cars this year were gross - I mean literally. They were covered in bird shit. Last year the tuner cars that were out there were extremely clean. Not sure who's running that part of the show, but on a friday night, it should be bangin. This helps bring people into the building. Get a DJ out there, get some cheezy car show models. Get people hyped. This show gets lazier every year.

Second side note - VPD having a booth in the show is not tactful this year. Go away.

Only thing I got excited for was the Terry Fox Van. Then my blood pressure went through the roof when a few red necks starts opening and closing shelves on it (can’t you read the sign. They then started to speak and I realized, no they probably can’t read). The 2000Gt was also neat to see on this side of the pond.

Oh and the Jeep Gladiator has my attention. I also like the new Ford Ranger. God damn vehicles are expensive now.

First time to the show. I’d go again. If I had nothing to do.

Fuck i know right? I went yesterday and was like wtf? that's it? Last year's show was waaaaaay better

FatalCloud 03-24-2019 04:40 PM

Glad i didnt go...Somebody should go to the vpd booth and be like it seems u are supporting the culture by having a booth and educating ppl but then ur officer Cain is going around and handing out ridiculous vi's, how come he isnt giving out tickets to the tuner alley cars since theyre non-oem...

westopher 03-24-2019 05:35 PM

Worst show I have been to. You see better cars any sunny day in any given area of Vancouver. The Alfa quoattrofromagio was the highlight of the new cars. Manual carbon seats?! Amazing in a new car. Everything else downstairs was a small to large SUV. 2 lizard green 991 RS's, a 512, a couple lambos were cool. A couple cool old school trucks. Glad I had an awesome dinner beforehand.
Last time for me.

I believe last year there was a lot more contestants being it was the 1st year (I think) of PASMAG Tuner Battleground. Also last year there wasn't a VI frenzy going around, so people that were apart of the competition drove their vehicles in the morning while it was still fresh. I believe this year many contestants didnt dare driving down and instead had it towed the night prior.

nothing that was outside on friday night would have any hope of passing a VI (in spite of being posted up right next to a VPD booth).

this was just tuner garb plain and simple. So many IG @vinyls. Plaza also had 1/3 as many cars as last year. I just wished I'd gone down earlier in the week when Porsche club was representing.

A few points from the show.

More SUVs because that's what more and more people buy. I know that's not what we car enthusiasts want to see but it's the reality of today's times. Manufacturers are going to make what gets them our money and SUVs are it.

Kia and Hyundai have come a long way in the last 15 years. If I had the money, I'd buy the Genesis G70 (Hyundai product) over a BMW 3 series in a heartbeat. Mitsubishi though, I agree with you. They need to step up their game and stop using old names for their new SUVs (Eclipse, Evo, etc)

As for why no BMW or Mercedes? I think it's because manufacturers would rather spend the money on an event that focuses on their product and not have to compete with another brand right next to them. That's why you see more and more private launch events of new car & SUV models from auto brands. It just makes more sense from a financial and marketing perspective. Probably in 10 or 15 years from now, auto shows will be a thing of the past.

I disagree. I've been to "private" launches (lol, everyone on spam email list) but they are paid for by dealers. Auto show is national corporate office saying FU. If BMW Canada came to the show, my wife would be bugging me to buy a new X3 right now. I don't think auto shows are a thing of the past - why not really market it? Strikes me as a tremendous opportunity for brand HQ's (not dealers) to put their product in front of the buying public. As a long time guest of the event, I can tell you that used to be the case. I received no value out of my entry - in years past we bought cars the week after.
