12 hours in guangzhou baiyun airport

Which area worth to visit west of Guangzhou airport if you have 12 hours ?

I like cheap food, morning market, night market.
even better if there is some festival or some sort.
even better if there is some indoor climbing or slides fun kids coin ride area (like yaohan food court and aberdeen food court style) and cheap food.
clean toilet will be a plus.

thanks

I will be there First week of July.

let me try to keep this as short as possbile

12hrs = 8hrs since metro is not a direct line to the airport and line 3 is one of the busy lines in metro

apps to download a head of time are: guangzhou explorer metro app (i use it alot) and baidu translation app (much better app then google and it also does cantonese)

light backpack as metro security is sort of like airport, also either have small bills or set up wechat pay in vancouver (wechat pay is great and fun to try out if your new to it), no ones got time to change u a 100 when they are busy

places to visit: GONG YUAN QIAN (公园前) station located in line 1/2 in the metro line (its an exchange line station), there is a mall called comic co city and i go there once a week to buy my video games and models (stuff like that) as its fill with anime stuff (not sure how old your kids are)........but only one section has it other is just clothes (its located under the food places)

and once u leave exit the mall bejing street is just around walking distance (10min walk, ask around if u cant find it), its a tourist attraction with lots of things to buy and eat (foods cheap as its in an old district)

also checkout zhujiang newtown (thats the station name, line 5) thats the westren art culture/business district there (me and my dad once met a client in his office there, then we to have dinner at our favorite bar and then went to see CATS the musical all in the same area)

im not sure when your 12hr starts and what day its on but watch out for busy traffic and personal belongings period (avoid afterwork hours)

u can ask me anything (in this thread) as i live in gz and i have a cantonese back ground, i try my best to answer anything ad best i can (just dont ask me to read chinese or anything culture as im terrible with that)

Edit: DG is dead, i can get same price and quality in GZ but just on the outer part of the city

Is there a joke about dongguan or was that a legit recommendation? :considered:

My wife's dad runs a company there, so we've been there several times over the last 12+ years. Obviously we never go to the scuzzy parts of town. There are quite a few good restaurants, but really not much else stands out to me. Maybe the dead super mall that was featured on a BBC documentary LUL

I honestly was completely unaware of this reputation you guys keep alluding to.

As a side note, it's actually been pretty impressive to watch it change so much over the years. The city has like quadrupled in size since I first went, and used to be swarming with scooters. First time going to china in our lives, we get off the bus, and immediately swarms of scooters were circling around us. We were basically like inured fish being circled by sharks, it was disgusting. We tried looking for somewhere to hide. Eventually one dude tried to grab my wife's purse, but she held on. We ducked into a random office (I think it was a dentist) and waited for our ride to arrive. What a fucking shithole, but it's not as bad anymore.

For anyone curious...

Dongguan, Guangdong

Dubbed China’s sin city, Dongguan has suffered a bit of a fall from grace after attempts to shut down the prostitution industry that was once rife here.

Despite closing more than 2000 venues in 2014, including saunas, KTVs and massage parlors the area is still home to a good many migrant and domestic sex workers.

As is common with a lot of former red light districts, much of the sex trade run in Dongguan has moved online but with an estimated 300,000 escorts working in the city, a lot of them will take to the streets to get business.
