Recommendations for cutting + programming a car key
 

My car only came with one key, so I was hoping to look into getting a copy made in case of an emergency. Does anyone have any suggestions for an automotive locksmith in the Vancouver area? I have done a Google search, but I was hoping to see if anyone had any recommendations based on real world experience or word of mouth. I have an '05 Infiniti G35. Thanks!

it cost me $70 at prices locksmilth to cut a key for a 2013 Chevy truck.. they wanted an additional $50 if i wanted the fob

I recommend Broadway locksmith, used them before for my Lexus key

How much would it cost at the dealership? do you save that much though?

when i owned a mazda i bought a key from mazdaonline parts, a site run by a mazda dealer in the US. I gave them some part of my vin and they cut me a key and sent it. took it to Wolf to get it programmed. I was buying a "flip key" (because it was cool!). Flip key was $50 US iirc.

^^ do they only cut? And you have to go to the dealer to program the immobilizer?

pretty much anyone can cut the mechanical key for your infiniti. As for the immobilizer chip, i'm not sure if there are aftermarket key blanks that can clone your original key (by aftermarket shops).

Other thing is if you have the regular key version or the ikey version. The regular immobilizer key will not work on the ikey because it physically will not fit the ignition key slot..

If you go to the dealer for the immobilizer key registration, you can save some money on labour if you go to the Nissan dealer instead of the Infiniti dealer.

They can do the programming too.

I just gave precision a call $49 for regular key (no remote) and $60 to reprogram immobilizer. Is that a good deal?

Update to this thread, I have had a hell of a time in the past trying to get anyone to copy my breaking Lexus keys (anyone who has a 2000's Lexus knows what I'm talking about) and a couple shops even ruined 2 of my eBay key blanks trying...

I called Broadway Locksmiths and the guy on the phone sounded uncertain about being able to do it but someone in the background said they could and cutting the key would be $120.00. That sounded high and I didn't feel good about how they sounded like they weren't sure.

I then called Precision Locksmiths and the guy right away knew which keys I was talking about, said they even have blanks AND units with the electronics/buttons inside available but if I had my own blanks and just wanted a copy it was $35.

Obviously at $35 versus $120 despite the distance from Richmond I went there, the lady used a lazer machine to cut my key in minutes... $35 + tax... and she even gave me a paper with my key's code on it so I could give them that code in the future they could cut it again even without me bringing a key to copy. Great service and great price, worth the drive all the way from Richmond for sure.

Update: They said they key itself is about $130, but the programming aspect of it is roughly 1-2 hours @ $90/hr, so not much cost saving compared to the dealer.
