Alternating Shaw & Telus & ___ (other)

Any good deals right now for alternating between the service providers plans? Trying to keep costs low.

the internet service providers/telecom companies in Canada are a joke, gotta keep doing this whole rigamole of threatening to quit every 6 months to get a decent rate lol

Anyone with experience with VMedia or Lightspeed?

Lightspeed is just a shaw reseller. It service is going to be just as good as shaws. https://www.can-com.com/ is another good one.

Thread hijack: I have an old Shaw Motorola modem and a Linksys wifi router. Had this combo for many years. Occasionally my wifi instantly cuts out, but then always comes back online 2 or 3 mins later. I believe it's the wifi router that's the culprit. It's frustrating when it happens while watching Netflix or on a Skype call.

If I call Shaw, will they replace my old one and give me one of those wifi-equipped modems for free? Or do I have to pay, in which case I may as well just buy a new router from somewhere. Thanks

All “3rd party” providers are piggybacking off either Shaw or Telus unless you are with urbanfiber or Novus.

The trade off with 3rd party providers is customer service is non existent.

Also switching companies every 6 months is pretty much over as well (and as it should be imo) because over a 2 year agreement you’re going to be saving way more staying with one company as opposed to paying month to month prices and switching every 6 months. Also the inconvenience of having to be home for appointments, etc.

$9.95/month unlimited internet

ADSL and cable internet are so overrated. Switching back to dial up is the best thing I ever did.

It looks as if they encourage the switching game, even at 2 years locked

I stick to Telus and call in every 6 months to extend my loyalty discount. Easier than switching every 6 months and pretty much similar savings.

I think I'm at $45/mo for 100mbit unlimited data

I was tired of Shaw raising prices every 3 months and I didn't feel like doing a dance every 6 months so I switched to Lightspeed about 1.5 years ago. Got internet 75 with unlimited data for $44.75 all in and I've been happy with their service so far.

I've used Novus 100 for the past year. They're running a $35/month deal right now.

I'm switching to Telus later this month because their promotional team came into my building a few weeks ago with good deals. Their 300 service for $33/month which includes Pik TV and a $300 bill credit on a 2 year deal.

I asked Novus if they would offer something similar but they said $35/month is the best they can do.

thats what i do too. except i got lazy and signed a 2 year contract this time.

I'm a bit choked that even with price locked in with telus, they still jack up the price. Over the phone they said price match shaw but written is locked in discount minus $xx.xx off the total current price.

XplicitLuder 05-05-2019 09:40 AM

I was surfing through redflagdeals, and people most deals there (duh) so someone had a rep at shaw that offered 300mbps for 45$ a month with 250$ credit on a 2 year contract. I got telus to price match that , so basically paying 35$ a month for the next 2 years
