Buying wheels from US privately hi guys. im planning on buying a set of wheels from the states and i was wondering if i need to show proof of purchase? like a piece of paper with the sellers signature or screenshot of the posting. anybody have experience crossing the border with goods bought privately from the u.s? |
Yes always have some sort of proof |
I create a bill of sale and have a screenshot or print out of the ad. One border officer said "anyone could have written this" referring to the bill of sale. So I responded, "then go call the number on it, I already warned him that he may or may not be contacted by the border" then the officer walked away, for what reason, i don't know, perhaps because they just wanted to throw in their 2 cents and they weren't the primary officer I was dealing with. |
I’ve always printed out the craigslist ad and had the seller write out the bill of sale on it. Usually have the contact info printed out or written so the officer can call the seller if needed. |
Definitely need some proof, even if you say you got it form eBay or something. Be damn sure they’ll ask for the auction# and go on eBay to find it, etc |
A good friend of mine, provided printed copies of the CL ad, all email correspondence and a bill of sale. The border agent still considered them undervalued and flagged his Nexus. Unfortunately, you can do everything right but you're always at the mercy of the agent's discretion. |
i love it when they treat citizens trying to declare goods as criminals and threaten to take away their identification |
