Recmendations for Pre Purchase Inspections?

I'm planning to buy a 2007-2008 Acura TL Type S and I was planning to just take the car to the Acura dealership for a pre purchase inspection. Is it a good idea to take it to a dealership or should I bring it to an independent shop instead?

Most of the cars I'm looking at are around 100,000-150,000kms so I want to make sure I'm buying a clean & well maintained example.

I'm not too familiar with which independent shops would be familiar with working/inspecting Acuras? Anyone have any recommendations?

i took a mazda to a mazda dealer - in fact took it to the same dealer that did the service on it.

i asked them specifically to tell me all the services i needed done and how much it'll cost and how long it'll take (as if i was going to do) - they gave me few items to do.

who knows the car like the people who built it?

There’s nothing special about a TL any competent shop can do an inspection

You want to pay dealer rates ... as above poster said, any competent mech should be able to inspect a Honda/Acura. Even some CL mobile purchase inspection might do. BCAA also provides mobile pre-purchase inspection.

The other factor to consider is the inconvenience of taking said car to dealer or mech for inspection vs. mobile.

I work at a dealership (not Burrard Acura) and in some cases during a pre-purchase inspection, we might catch something that some private shops might not catch as we work on these cars all day long and have noticed common wear and tear items, premature failures, etc. whereas a generic shop deal with a variety of other cars throughout the day. Not saying one is better than the other but just some food for thought.

Whatever knock you're implying certainly ain't from me. I've recommended a bunch of other people to TSS (and will continue to do so depending on the situation) and have personally dealt with them in the past with positive experience.

it's a n/a fwd honda
if it shifts goods, doesn't blow blue smoke, you're probably g2g
if you really want a peace of mind, the dealer or any shop already mentioned will do just fine

no hard feelings =D

Hey guys,

So I found a BMW private sale that I'm interested in purchasing. Called one the BMW dealerships, and their pricing for inspection is $430, takes half a day.

Is that the ball park range for inspections now a days?

Not sure the going market price but I paid ~$350 for one at a Lexus dealer last year for reference.

Edit: Looks like they billed for 4.2 hours too so about half a day.

Just bring it to Nixon automotive.. they charged some where in 300 range for my m3 ppi. They only do bmw's

Why not go to CG Motorsports especially if its a BMW or other Euro brand.

I've done several PPI with them and I think it was in the $200~ range and was satisfied each time.

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll take a look and make a decision from there
