Even though I was proven wrong with Cobra Kai, I am still super skeptical of these 80s adaptations... As much as I'd love for it to be awesome, I am not getting my hopes up

I have no idea. I just noticed in 1 scene he had an ultra modern helmet and non-standard g suit. Figured he was test flying a new bird or something.

Tom does have a decent say in his movies; the only "shit" movie he placed his bets on which didn't pan out too well was "The Mummy"

but re the movie, some of the footage looks awesome

Wonder how Val Kilmer will fit in too, poor guy has battled throat cancer for 2 years and breathes with assistance nowadays, can barely talk above a rasp

Most likely a cameo, he probably dies (funeral scene and maverick leaves the wings on the tombstone).
