gps or google maps Hi guys, I'm going to be driving alot around the city for work and in need of a GPS because my car doesn't have one. I'm currently deciding between buying a GPS or upgrading my cellphone plan so I can use my phone for google maps. Would like to hear your thoughts on what you think might be the better option. |
Google Maps for sure, so you don't have to shell out the extra couple hundred for an external gps. Also gives you real-time traffic updates. I do a lot of travelling between cities as well, and Google Maps is quite accurate. Also has a function to save and pin places on your map if you have to make multiple stops. |

Not as accurate But you can download Google maps for offline use No data need |
I use Waze because unlike Google Maps, it can get you out of traffic and find ways to maneuver around it. That said, using it in the states is far better than using it in Canada. Since Waze is peer-to-peer, so it depends on the community for updates, it seems like more people use it in the states. Last month, it got me out of an hour long traffic jam by detouring me off route for about 15 mins. Waze in Canada is still useful because it'll tell you if you should watch out for an object on the road ahead, construction ahead, police reported ahead, how long you'll be in a traffic jam for, etc etc. All said, I would use some kind of data dependent phone app. It's just more accurate and it doesn't even use that much data. On average, I use probably less than 100mb a month. And I use Waze daily and for every drive. |
