Hit & Run - Nov 29, 2019

I already sent the clip into ICBC. I wasn't able to catch the plates of the truck. The truck also ran the light and I was not able to catch up/find them afterwards.

Stay safe out there, folks!

Usually hit and run goes against your own insurance but in cases with video evidence what would the ruling be?

Berz out.

You don't necessarily need plate identification for the "other" party in order to be covered from ICBC's Hit & Run fund. That video should be sufficient to cover the deductible / repairs providing that it can be tied to the "victim's" claim and ICBC approves.

You pay the deductible only. It doesn't go against your own policy, it comes out of a fund set aside for hit and runs.

Generally hit and run refers to cases where you don't have the plate because there's no insurance policy to claim against. If you find the guy afterwards, ICBC doesn't treat it as hit and run because you now have plates/insurance to claim against. In the former you pay a deductible, in the latter the deductible is waived.

It won't affect his rates but the guy that got hit will still have to pay the deductible unless someone was able to get the plate number off of the truck that hit him, unfortunately the video doesn't show the guys plate.

Chances are, someone out there has footage, as well. Thing is, most dahscams people have in their vehicles won't get the plate number that well at night.

Thank you for sending the clip to ICBC. We totally need to hold these people accountable.
